Bear in mind MX's are not Lamborghini's and finding capable mechanics is not a big ask. Standard services are not difficult. Usual criteria is find a business which is convenient so that drop of and pick up is not a hassle to you or others.

that's arguable, Mr. Morlock.
one of the local car garages has quoted me $450.00 for my 100,000km car service..
mania charges $785.00.. i'd go straight to mania because i have peace of mind they would treat my car like a lamborghini. sure, they are located in the middle of nowhere but if you're after quality then i'd say it was well worth it.
i can't brain today.. i have the dumb..

Thats interesting Sliq- picking the higher price. The 100K service is a little trickier in that the timing belt has to be replaced. But be assured the MX5 is a straightforward vehicle and there are many competent mechanics around who do nothing but work on cars every day. One of the "rules" of quoting is to get 3- the lowest might not be the one you take. It is also sensible to show them the service schedule or to ask what work will be carried out.

Any good reputation mechanic should be able to do the job fine.
The MX5 engines are also in various 323s/Lasers/Capris so chances are just about every mechanic workshop has done a fair few of the 100,000k services on these engines. It's probably easier for them to do it on an MX-5 then the front wheel drive setups.

i would also recommend jason at TTauto, he is a real car enthusiast and he knows his mx5's... what everyone says is kinda true, our engines in mx5s are pretty common and straightforward, but personally, i look for reliability and trust when i look for a mechanic....
