I have the IL short shifter in my SP, and I love it!
Just make sure when you are fitting it, that the lower, plastic bush is not too tight a fit onto the shifter, otherwise the shift will be quite stiff.
You may have to use a big drill-bit to ream it out a little before you install it.
Mine is as light and easy to use as the standard shifter, it's just that the throws are about half that of normal.
Indeed, I can change gears just using my thumb, with my hand resting on the handbrake.
A short shifter can cause premature wear, IF you constantly do very fast shifts, as it would even with the standard shifter, but if you're reasonable with it, it won't wear the gearbox any more than a standard shifter would.
When I drive someone else's 5 now, it feels like I'm rowing a boat.
The short shifter will really enhance the enjoyment of driving a 5, and i think they should have fitted them to all 5's from the factory.
If you're in Sydney, give me a hoy and I'll give you a demo of it.

Thats awesome to hear!
The IL short shifter's been ordered a couple of days ago and is in the air as we speak.
The \"lower plastic bush\" you are talking about is that the nylon bushing that seems to fit onto the round ball thingy (note the technical terminology =p)
Benny I can take you up on that offer as I am located in Sydney.
