Can you advance timing with chipped ECU?

Postby mr_rotary » Sun Jul 13, 2008 4:10 pm

I am going to have my mechanic pit in a new clutch in my NA6 tomorrow and at the same time ask him to advance the timing. I have since got hold of a Mines VX ECU and have not yet installed this. Basically it's a chipped ECU, plug and play which basically does the following:

1. Eliminate 180km top speed limiter
2. Shift rev limiter timing
3. Eliminate boost limiter
4. Modification of fuel correction map and Ignition map
5. Change quorum (k)
6. Change lattice of the map (RPM, injection time)
7. Modify every correction points

So, is it ok to advance the timing to 14° and plug this in withought doing any damage? If not, can the timing be still advanced?

Eliminate 180km top speed limiter

That's easy to do with the stock dash.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

You really need to get directions from the programmer.

Theres no way of knowing unless its supplied with or you can get your hands on an ignition curve.

safest way if you can't get directions is set to 10Deg then install chip, because if they have advanced the curve it will be compounded by your advance.

They may reccomend setting the base timing to a value they have designed to work with their curve, but if so it would be set after install, not before.

These are only a few examples of the many possible variables, because only the programmer knows how thier own chip is programmed

Hope this helps, Let us know if you get more info on its setup

Cheers
Matt.

It will most likely be optimised for fuel thats better than what we get here. That + advanced timing could = BANG

I wasn't aware that the NA6 had a speed limiter. My old red one certainly didn't (got that to 185km/hr then chickened out) and neither did my mates (below)

There's a screw in the back of the gauge cluster, I can't remember if you need to put a screw in or take it out to remove the speed limiter.

It says \"180\" next to the hole as far as I can remember. I have pics somewhere.

Only the japanese grey imports have a 180 limiter.
