I picked up an ecu of a 323 mazda for $20
The connector has 3 plugs like the NA8 and onwards, just use the two outside ones (your NA6 only has those)

Cheap as chips.
Huh?

Has anyone found a decent dyno in the Brisbane/ Sunshine coast area with an operator who understands Megasquirt?

I spoke to the guy at Smart Automotive in stafford, he has tuned megasquirt once before, on a falcon, I think it was a bit of a challenge as he had to calibrate sensors etc which obviously doesn't need to be done for us. I will probably see him when it comes to tuning mine, it might take a bit of convincing to get him interested as it's not one of the main brands he is used to, but I think as he realises there are a few out there he might be more keen.

I spoke to the guy last week and he was pretty disinterested in the whole thing, reckons minimum 3 hours and more than likely 4-5!!!!!!
I'm going to take mine to the guy in Toowoomba, just down the road from Mt Coolum  He specialises in RX7s but is very happy to have a go at a '5 and has the MS software on site. I'll let you know how I get on.

How's progress Big G? I've just ordered my PNP and will need to get it tuned.

Mark, I would be more than happy to share my MSQ files with you as Tinscfi over in Perth shared with me.
You would probably know, the PNP will come with a good base tune, so only a few tweaks here and there will get you good power.

Since you and I have the same car, and although I'm no expert, I can give you some pointers.

You should have it up and running well before August 23 so bring your laptop with you (if you have one) for datalogging at lakeside

I hope you got it through DIYAutotune.

Thanks Andrew. Yep I got it from DIY with the wide band O2 sensor. I've already got one of those air temp sensors lying around but don't know if I'll go maf-less.

Soon I'll be fitting the X-Force headers, N-power rear can and cat and a special ADE centre section exhaust. I don't know what that will do to the power in nat atmo form. It's really to support the JR charger when that finally goes on.

Tomorrows the dyno day
I'll let you guys know how it goes. Andrew have you got your knock sensor yet, and where do you wire it into a PnP?

No, havent ordered the knocksense. Thanks for reminding me

It is wired onto one of the wires in the middle plug of the PNP, not sure exactly which one though.

Good luck with the tune 8)

Good news, Matt at TAS in Toowoomba has a dyno and now understands Megasquirt!!!!! He spent about 3 hours with my car on the dyno and he has transformed the driving experience
The pic shows before and after graphs, the lower lines being the before

I can highly recommend the company and if you want details, PM me as I'm not sure if protocol allows me to publish this sort of info.

That is fantastic news Geoff. Due to my own time constraints I'll probably pay TAS a visit.

Cheers,
Danny

Very cool Geoff! I'm not suprised the old tables were not optimal as I gave her a fair bit more fuel and backed off the timing to be safe (obviously not quite enough at high load and low RPM for your setup though).

I'm really glad you got it sorted on the dyno, quite an impressive amount of power considering you are running the standard pulley and no intercooler! 8)

Can't wait to see her with a cooler and the 10 pound pulley! :P

Did Matt say much about the MegaSquirt?

Hi Tim
Matt was very complimentary about the Megasquirt. I was impressed by the professionalism of the company, he loaded the software onto his own PC and took it home so that he could familiarise himself overnight, at the end he said that the software was very good, also there was a little more to come from the setup, but the final settings still erred on the safe side. He also had a look at the gearbox and diff oil levels for me, as I can hear a slight whine from the back, and he also diagnosed a worn idler pulley bearing. The prices were very reasonable too.
