One needs to have the car in gear, in order to move it into the parking spot...

My dad's car you cant start the car unless your foot is in the clutch. Is this difficult to wire up into an MX5?
The US model MX5 has that feature, but it wouldn't have helped in this situation...

And they disable it because it is annoying.

sure it might be annoying, but if the aus spec cars had this feature, i would still have the original door on my car!

nah Fatty, you have NO idea how annoying it really is............ a mate of mine bought an '82 smokey & the bandit Transam years ago & it had that feature, it is THE most annoying thing I've ever come across, the only other auto related feature that nearly pisses me off as much is the "you have to turn the key right off before you can restart it" that our Merc Sprinter has, I think it's so you can get really heckled if you stall it.........imagine both of those features on the one vehicle..............I'd give up & frigging walk!!
I am completely OVER all these bullshit devices that stop people making mistakes, like beeping so you don't lock your keys in the car.........not that you can do THAT in an NC anyway, you physically can't lock the doors manually with the key in the ignition ............the cutesy reverse alarm so you don't back into anything.......I've lost count of the amount of cars with these that also have big creases in the rear bumper, obviously not idiot proof??.....the reversing cameras on 4WD's.........if you can't use your mirrors properly, you won't have a HOPE of judging anything with a reverse camera ...........Matty made a mistake..........has learnt his lesson & probably won't do it again........& that is one reason i ALWAYS use the handbrake on any of my vehicles, properly adjusted, it should stall a car without the car moving an inch
Don't worry about what people think, they don't do it very often

A very old rule before the days of auto's was that you always disengaged the clutch ie foot to floor before starting the engine. Some old cars had such sloppy changes that you might not even recognise neutral. It of course fails to work if the car is parked in gear and you start the engine say through the window or with a remote starter. Parking in gear was also recommended by some as a safety feature say on a hill. I reckon modern auto's are terrific in this regard as they will not start in gear- and here lies the problem. Drivers spoiled by auto's may have a temporary brain snap when switching to the manual.

Bummer about that Matty...
Looks like it time for stripes!!! They will cover those hole no worries, or you can always say you were \"ballin in my 5 when 2 haters with 9's tried to pop a couple caps, but missed an hit your bumper\"
personally I would go stripes, you will be laughed at less than the second option..
