195 45 16 inch tyres. whats avaliable?

Hi, when I got my car it came with set of 205/45/16 Bridgestone turanzas er30's. I believe that these tyres were original equipment on the nb8b's
While the aren't out and out performance tyres, I'm quite happy with them, they grip well and after about 10,000kms have plenty of life left, although the side walls are a bit feathered. I also find that they work a lot better when pumped up to around 38-40 psi.
I believe that Yokohama C- drives are quite good in this size. Although this thread makes me want Bridgestone RE001's http://www.mx5cartalk.com/viewtopic.php ... sc&start=0

Well since you reference my thread, and since I've owned 3 sets of ER30's (yep, original equipment on the NB8B), 2 sets of CDrives and now have the RE001's, I feel qualified to comment on my experiences
I set my fastest times at wakefield on the ER30's, they are a good tyre. I managed about 25000km on each set, but that included plenty of track and skidpan days.
The CDrives felt as good when new as the turanzas, and great in the wet, but I haven't dríven at wakefield on them so I can't comment on their outright grip. They lasted a lot longer, 50-65000km, but no track or skidpan days in there. Very good turn in. Slippery when new!
The RE001's feel a lot grippier than the CDrives, but again I haven't taken them to the track so I can't comment on their outright grip. I've done about 6000km on them now and they feel fantastic. Bit less precise turn in, but once they are turned in, and settled, they certainly do grip well.
Supreme Blue NB8B, 1:16.98 at Wakefield when stock, but it's not stock any more...

reason i want 195 45 16 is that i just got my self some 16\" 6inch wide rims and i think 205 45 16 would be a bit too wide for the 6 inch rim? (how wide is the stock na8a rims?)
and the over all diameter will be too big compare to 195 45 16 for a na6.

i found some Pirelli P Zero Nero in 195 45 think they rekon they should be pretty good?

As stated in the original post the Bridgestone ER30 was otherwise known as the Turanza. The Grid II was a different tyre. At the time the Turanza was Bridgstone Australia's \"luxury\" tyre designed for top spec Magnas and Commodore type cars. I have no idea why Mazda chose it for the OEM MX5 tyre. I thought they were a very average tyre. One of the worst tyres I've had on my NB actually. Average grip wet and dry, though they let go progressily, harsh ride, noisey, wore quickly and expensive to replace. I think if you went down to Wakefield now Caffeine with your current tyres you would drop your lap time considerably.

Strange, because nobody managed to get significantly better times, on any road tyre (not counting semi slicks of course)
