steering wheel and hub q

mainly a question for the airbag guys, is the steering wheel hub and a thin race wheel about the same position as the stock nardi wheel? or does it come towards you more? i am asking because i have just fitted my rollbar and i have lost a bit of seat travel, so i wanted to get myself a hub and wheel that sits further back then stock.

Yep, about the same. Not legal to remove an airbag wheel for street use though :wink:

Most hubs are of a standardised length, but how far the steering wheel sits is really up to which steering wheel you end up with?
I think that most Momos tend to be more flat faced... but Nardis seem to have abit more dish to them, that is... they will sit further into your lap (which is probably not what you want)

Be careful removing the airbag! and remember... the nut on the steering column stays on a few turns while you pull the steering wheel... :lol:

I wouldn't remove an airbag for purely safety reasons (if you have an almighty stack, the last thing you want going through your mind is 'errrrmmmm.....').

Grow longer arms.

MXhevn I do not quite understand what u are trying to achieve. I imagine that the roll bar may have restricted rear travel of the seat not forward. Many people actually sit too close though that is changing- some Defensive driving schools recommend your wrist to drop on the rim of the wheel. Race car drivers sit very close now. I moved forward some yrs ago and find it quite comfortable and preferable- no ballerina movements for depressing clutch. Air bags are valuable safety features- in the old days rubbish wood rim wheels claimed lives and contibuted to injuries- most of us did not give it a thought but now....

i have fixed bucket seats, seats have to clear the rollbar this pushes the seat forward, which makes my feet and arms closer to to everything, its a little to close for my liking but it is suprisingly comfortable. what am i trying to achieve? i want the car to fit me, i want it to perfect for me, so that i am comfortable driving under any condition, whether its trackdays, random spirited driving or driving in a big bad thunderstorm.

MXHEVN I re read my post and realised an inadvertent error - I said \"many people actually sit too close\" I meant of course \"too far away\" You commented that it is \"surprisingly comfortable\" so perhaps it is ok anyway.

i can live with it, but getting in and out is now a real pain. If i could get the seat back just a little more it would be perfect, i might need some stock seats, it would be nice to have a smaller steering wheel but.

if you can't reach the top of the steering wheel when your seatbelt is as tight as it can go (back right up against seat) then your seat is too far back

The test is, shoulders back against the seat, arms outstretched, your wrists should rest on top of the steering wheel. Perfect.

BTW, shrink your arms :D

cross your arms at the wrist & they should then rest on the steering wheel easily is what you meant to say Bruce :P

get a smaller bucket seat or a reclining one, sorry bud.

It's an immediate defect on your car if the airbag isn't there, but if you're set on replacing the wheel, at least remove the airbag light bulb so at your next random breath test you have a slim chance of not getting busted.
