A lot of advertising from Mazda about their servicing states that only Mazda has the ability to do PCM updates. It's my understanding that they get done as part of the regular servicing. ie, if an update applies to your car then it gets updated when the car is plugged into the diagnostics machine to check for errors at the service.

When our previous one had its 10,000km service, a PCM updatewas noted in the jobs done. The current one is getting it's 10,000km service in a month - I'll let you know.
