finally tried the methanol
well all I can say is that with only about 2 litres in about 30 litres of normal 98 ron it is by far the most effective fuel addative I have ever used. first time I have actually noticed a difference with something like that. Even the car sounds difference - and louder. Would be interesting to see the differences on the dyno.

Thats True when running Pure Methanol, and its something to be careful of when mixing.
One Gain from this in low mix ratios is when an engine runing too rich for max power normally, it will then be slighty leaner and can produce more power.
From what i have read the mx5 runs a little rich on WOT
Other gains are the cooling effect and octane lift. which are great for a turbo motor.
Great work 16bit, nice too see a little experimenting

Your car is turboed right? If so did you turn the boost up at all?
And Do you run the stock ECU or another?

i did do a bit of research on it before I put it in. Universally it is very much looked upon as a silly act to go over 10% unless your engine, fuel system and tune is sorted for it. The prefered AFR for methanol is 4.5 which i can assure you mine is no where near! the biggest benifit would be the cooling effect. when this stuff evapourates in higher percentages (like 100) it tends to freeze intakes on idle so its like poor mans nos at 10%.
I got it from et racing fuels. 60 dollars for 20 litres.

my car is supercharged and no I left the tune as is. Despite the fact it may have leaned the net mixture out the knock protection of the methanol (113 ron) should not really effect the engine that much. that and a cooler intake temp would have helped too.
all in all i recommend using it in small percentages.
just make sure you get proper formulated racing fuel not pure methanol as it is highly corrosive and has no lubrication properties what so ever which means it will wear almost all of the components that it comes in to contact with. and whatever you do wear eye, breathing and skin protection. and make sure you have a water source very close by when transfering it from place to place as it burns clear and HOT and water is the only thing that will work to put it out. and have a very good shower very close after using it to remove any traces off your skin as it will make you blind (directly effects and destroys the optic nerve) and dumb (if breathed in will destroy brain cells and give you one hell of a headache).
