25 car Wakefield; 18th August.

Postby minix3 » Mon Jun 02, 2008 3:32 pm

This will be held on the 18th of August at Wakefield park.

Details
We're aiming for the \"no frills\" track day as well. There will be no official timing (stop watches and personal lap timers are permitted) and we aren't bringing any gun drivers to provide driver training.

While we are charging a bit more, we are also limiting the field to a maximum of 25 drivers. We will run two sessions of 12-13 vehicles each, which means you'll be looking at two runs an hour. As the field thins during the day, this will change to open pit. Since its a small group, it'll give you a chance to meet everyone.

We've had questions about whether people can drift, too. The answer is yes, but for insurance purposes we must have a dedicated drift session with no passengers. When we fill the ranks I'll email everyone and see what people are interested in, and work it out from there. As no-one is likely to drift all day (the tyre cost would be prohibitive) then we'll alternate the drift-interested group between one grip and one drift instead in the morning, and play it by ear when the field shrinks.

Its first in, first served. If we do get enough interest, we'll run a reserve list.

Cost
$200 per car

Are you aiming for all MX5s, or will this be a combination of other cars?

What's the format? Will it be timed laps, or just a track day type thing? Will it be groups and grids, or will it be groups and spaced out starts?

It will be any cars not strictly MX5's. Since we only have 25 cars it will probably be two groups at the start and probably open pit by the end of the day.

We are thinking about having one timed session, one passenger session and one drift session.
You would need to bring your own timing equipment although we do have a few lap timers floating around which you may be able to borrow.

one passenger session

You might want to check on this. I was there the other day and they told us that they didn't allow passengers anymore, unless supervised by a professional instructor, due to insurance reasons.

Yay.

I have hired out Wakefield before. You are allowed passengers during non timed sessions and you must have separate sessions for passengers

I spoke with them a few days ago regarding this matter and they said that under no circumstances are passengers allowed unless the driver is a qualified driver training instructor with licence. This new rule was implemented 2 months ago. It's to do with insurance. This was for an open speed free day. Whether this rule is only for public sessions and not private booked sessions i don't know but i can't see how it would differ. It might be worth a call to check.

I held a private day there about a month ago and it was fine provided we had specific sessions and no timing. I think it may be different for private days

Must only apply to speed free days.

Out of curiosity, for those only wanting to be a passenger for this day, will they still have to pay the full $200 or will there be a discount? (passengers only with no driving)

You'd need a wakefield or cams licence to be a passenger though. So it wouldn't be completely free.

This would be correct. I have been before where passengers haven't needed a license but I think that was mainly because they forgot.
Wakefield License is $50 for a year
And to clarify it is $200 per car so if you would like to share with a mate that would be fine as long as you only enter a single car.
