the shims that go between the pad and the piston have all be perished for my front callipers. can I use the same lube for the sliding pins for this or do I have to get the shims?

Are you using high temp caliper grease?

When I read the instructions on my tube of grease it said it could be used for both the calipers and back of the pad.

You put some grease on the back of the pad to reduce any chance of noise apparently.

I haven't had any problems or noise, my shims were also gone.

There is some specific anti squeel type goo for on the back of the pads. Avail from Repco or the like and is an orange colour goo...

installed last night all good. have not dríven yet so we will see how it goes.

My front brakes were "clanking", so I tried using some of this stuff.
It does say on the label not for use with shimmed pads, so I ignored that and applied it between the back of the pad and the shim.

I've only done a brief 10 minutes test drive since, but it seems to have stopped the clanking noise.

Previously I installed new pad springs & clips from MX5Parts.co.uk to replace my worn/missing ones.

My jar of grease is Permatex Slicone Formula Caliper Lube

\"Apply calipaer lube to pins, slides, bushings, pistons and rubber sleves and seals. Lubricant may also be used as a noise supressor to eliminate caliper brake squeal.\"

At the time I thought like one tube of goo does it all so I chose this one. Good preventitive maintnece.
