Which tyres would you reccomend??

I need to buy new tyres for r.w.c. What tyres would be the best for street with a couple of sprint races. I will be buying a set of 15\" wheels for track use but not for a a few months. So would like a set of tyres that can handle a bit of track work.

mate there is a whole section of the forum dedicated to this. go and have a look in the \"wheels / suspension / brakes\" section (or whatever it's called), there are loads of recommendations. a current favourite fro street / track seems to be the bridgestone adrenalins. potenza's get a good wrap, some people may recommend yokie c-drives, i use them and they are good raod tyres but i think you can do better for the track.

i haven't had much experience with tyres like the other boys on here have, but atm, i'm using toyo proxes 4.. have not had a problem with them, and imho, they're excellent value for money for a street tyre..
i can't brain today.. i have the dumb..

I'm in love with;
RE001's
RE050's
and Falken 452's.
The falken's of that list are probably the best for both track and street IMO.
But apparently the RT615's are also quite good.

From Wheels magazine's 08 tyre test.

In the 235/45R17 size:

1- Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric (Replacing the GS-D3 in November)
2- Falken FK452
3- Accelera Alpha

In the 195/60R15

1- Pirelli P6000
2- Bridgestone Turanza ER300
3- Sumitomo HTR60V

As Fatty said, go through that link first. What works for other cars does not necessarily work for light and nimble cars like ours.

The Pirellis, Bridgestone Turanzas and Sumitomos mentioned are all admirable tyres, for taxis. Far too many people on this forum have been badly burnt with those bloody Goodyear GS-D3s with almost zero grip.

I went down to canterbury tyres but they where a bit vague. I was thinking of buying the 15's of ebay. Do you think they would be o.k

yes, no, maybe..... who knows!? :? unless you link us to a specific set you are interested in, we really can't comment. and even then, we can only go on the photos.

i did notice a set of 15" nb8a rims on ebay tho, that looked ok. is that the set you're talking about?

I've dríven an NB8A with P6000s and it was a barrel of fun. Heaps of feedback and very progressive. They lack grip though. They lack it a lot.

RE050As were OEM on my Liberty and I can compare them to the RT615s that I have on it now.
The RE050As are a tremendous tyre. Very stiff sidewalls (stiffest of any tyre I've tried). They're very progressive and incredibly communicative. Grippy as well, even in the wet. The main problem with them is price and wear.

The RT615s are in a completely different league to any other street legal tyre out there when you're talking about grip. They are simply phenomenal.
They're a bit squishier than the RE050As and need 2psi more in order to approach the same levels of feedback but they're amazingly progressive. Wet grip is mind blowing as long as you don't hit standing water.
If you want grip, there's no other tyre.

Obviously the 1500kg 4WD Liberty is going to be different from the MX-5 but you can draw some conclusions.

Well i know there WAS a set of NB8A rims on ebay that ended last saturday, but someone must have already won that auction 8)

I had 15\" P6000's on my NA8 and like you said they were heaps of fun. Very progressive and lots of feedback but average levels of grip. Except in the wet. They seemed to grip better in the wet than they did i the dry.

The p6000 was available in H and V rated in most sizes. The V rated being much more expensive and apparently grippier.

Wheels Magazine must be getting premium German made samples from Crapyear for testing...
