3A Racing Pod filter

Postby zz00me » Tue Jun 10, 2008 6:14 pm

Hi Guys,
I have 1994 Na 1.8 and I am deciding wheather to put in 3a racing pod filter that I have.
Unfortunatley I know very little about them.

Car is here
http://www.aus-cartalk.com/viewtopic.php?t=30300

I have read some test results on pod filters a little while ago and this one was the clear winner.

I think that this is a dry filter, can anyone confirm?
The box says nothing.

Is it worth putting this filter on or are pod filters just a bit of bling?
I am not expecting a large performance boost.

Keep in mind that the car has stock exhaust, so is this worth it?

thanks everyone.

I had 3A pod filter before, they are oiled cotton type not dry.

Pod filter without any type of heatshield will give you less power.

Get the urethane filters (dry type).
The one i have is a DR/FT one from autobarn.

A pod filter will generally not provide any performance gain, other than a nice sound on a stock NA engine. Generally the biggest restriction in airflow isn't the filter, but rather the design of the intake tract. If you are looking for performance gains, i would look to reducing the resistance between the intake pickup point to the throttle body.

Autosalon did a test for flow and filtration, I think the 3A filter came first or second
I'm using one atm, but didn't have anything to compare to besides the stock setup
I would do it just for the sound
but you might get a bit better response as well

pros: better response...better sound...same fuel economy
cons: MUST have some sort of heatshield otherwise the engine heat really creates lagginess especially in traffic.
