How to remove lock nuts ??????????

Postby emexv » Thu Jun 05, 2008 5:54 pm

I went to pull the wheels off and found I don't have a socket for the lock nuts on my mags. The guy I got the car off can't find it. Of course the nuts are \"sunken\" inside the wheel so I can't grip them. The lock nuts are the type with the grooves around the circuference of the nut.

Does anyone know a way I can get these nuts off?
Cheers
Mark

you need the right key, they are sold at most repco/auto one/supercheap places

Either that, or go on a club run and ask around.
I'm sure you'll find someone with the same lock-nuts.

Or you visit a wheel shop where they can use their rattle gun and a socket they don't love, hammer it on and try rattle it off. Could get a bit messy though.

(or leave your car out on the street in Sydney overnight and wake up to find the wheels are gone, or the whole car!)

i had the ones that are round and i lost the key to them, my fix was angle grinding the lock nut to the general shape of a hexagon then hammered on a sacrificial socket. :)

Maybe have a good look around in your boot or the little baggie the tools go into?

Just go to a wheel/tyre place. If they dont have the key they can probably still get them off for you.
