After reading that; you want an AVO (or equivalent BEGI kit from US) Stage 1 turbo kit.

Bolt on. Drive. Enjoy.

If you don't want to do silly things; your radiator, brakes, diff and internals are going to be just fine as Mazda made them.

Find a nearby club member with a turbo car and take it for a spin; you'll love it.

I've had both, 160RWHP S/C NA8 and a 225RWHP turbo NA6 and I definetly enjoyed the supercharger more but as the everyone has said get a drive in both and you'll make up your mind pretty quick

I live on the lower north shore of Sydney, and if you're free sometime, I'd be happy to take you for a drive in my SP.
You can e-mail me at george@scala.com.au.

My car may be a bit more powerful than you desire, but you'll see how much torque you get from a turbo.

i do acknowledge the philosophical truth provided by roy and hg that \" too much is never enough\" and it is distinctly possible that you are entirely correct. :.... but....i read that over 200rwhp comes with new and expensive complications....i am not interested in more maintanence, less reliability, and i really hate having to nurse mechanical devices...done it all my driving life in crap cars..... i demand easy divability for the rest of my live long life....so compromise!?!?!?!??....decision pending

enjoy

I'm reinstating the supercharger on my NA8 next month and am happy to take you for a spin.

If it was me (and I was going to supercharge)

a) Upgrade clutch (If you don't kill the standard clutch within 6 months of getting a supercharger than you probably didn't need more power to begin with).

b) A better radiator (you can get away without it, but I wouldn't risk it)

c) Intercooler (Its a little warmer here in W.A. I wouldn't want to run any forced induction without trying to reduce the intake temperatures.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

WOW...second page and nobodies suggested turfing your car and buying an SE yet! :P

Factory fitted power is more EPA. RTA and insurance friendly! 8)

If you want a ride in a bog stock SE (plenty enough power for this little black duck!   ) then shoot me a PM and I'm happy to oblige with a drive. I'm in Crows Nest by the way.

That's because he want's an improvement in power and torque

If mhj only wants to go as fast as an SE I would recommend he gets an NC and also enjoy the improved chassis 8)

Having dríven all the SC cars mentioned by Greenmachine, plus a very fast 1.6l Autorotor installation, I would recommend a turbo as being the easiest to live with in everyday situations. Aside from the M45 and V-Engineering setups, the s/c's have had issues and have probably cost their owners more in the long run then a high end turbo setup. Indeed the Autorotor was replaced with a turbo and now is a very fast, streetable and reliable setup.

The main issue is that an SE needs a lot of money thrown at it to get the torque figures you are describing. No point AT ALL.

Get back in your box Camelboi.

re supercharger

Postby Novice1 » Mon Jun 09, 2008 7:06 pm

I, thought long and hard about a supercharger, even had the money for one.

A Garrett T28 turbo came up at the right price and I couldn't be happier.

No lag, torque everywhere, sounds like a rotary and ended up costing less than a supercharger.

At the end of the day I am sure you will find whichever you choose more

than enjoyable.

Cheers Novice1 aka Ron
