Type 1 nose - Feedback??

Sorry for my total ineptitude at the Search function... :oops:

But has anyone bought a Type 1 nose http://www.mx5mania.com.au/product1184.htm from Mania?

I recall someone had one at the MX-5 dyno day at Mercury a couple of years ago.

Feedback on the quality, fit, longevity, weight etc etc. would be appreciated. I understand some comments may be not what a sponsor wants published so PMs for any touchy stuff please.

(I'm not normally a body kit kinda guy but maybe I've got a bit of rice somewhere in my genes)

hey mate

personally i do like the look of the type 1 nose.. but the type 2 does look HEAPS better.

the type 1 is simply a slip over front bar.. hence the price and why some people dont like them.. and if not fitted correctly you CAN tell it is a cover..


... in the end.. its all up to personal preference

Over-cap? Does it completely replace the stock nose from bonnet to base or is it just bottom half??

Any pics to a type 2 nose?

I find no problems with it.

Easy to remove and refit if needs be (eg installing a turbo).

Also easy to paint, etc.....

What else do you want to know?

I love it too, what UA said x2 , only downside is having to cut holes in original nose cone if for some reason you want to revert back to original.

What driving lights are you using on yours UA?? I've been looking for some nice looking small ones. Are they attached to the tow hooks?

the type 1 looks bloody tops in my opinion. it looks like it came straight out of the mazda factory that way ... the type 2 just looks like an aftermarket bodykit to me.

That's my view as well. They Type 2 looks tough but would need side skirts to be balanced and not nose-heavy. I reckon the type 1 just takes away the jelly bean on wheels look.

What do you get? Is it just a cap over half of the existing nose? How is it held on?

I've never been a fan of outlandish bodykits for the mx as it has rounded lines and I think with most of their products racing beat has created some great parts that are sporty and in keeping with the original lines.

My car came with the type 1 already on so i didnt have to choose but am extremely happy with the look.

Fitting - The nose cone is a cover that because of the fit, literally clips on and around the original nose cone and held in place with screws in the wheel arches and top section of the mouth piece. (mine is anyway)

I've also put foam and thin rubber inserts to avoid rubbing between it and the original front bumper as well as any little rattles.

They're just a pair of small dichroic halogen driving lights - couldn't tell you the brand, and the mounts are just screwed into the heavy plastic (white plastic) behind the bumper.....

The trick with the Racing Beat nose is to paint your sills. If you look at both cars above we've both done it, and it transfers the line of the curve at the bottom of the nose along the car, and right up into the tail section.

Gives it nice clean lines and the illusion of the car being lower.

so its just like a skin that covers the standard bumber ?

Wow thats weird I didnt relise that

thats obviuosly why they are cheaper.

did you guys have to drill the brake scoops in the original ?

did you paint them yourselves or get them done And how much to paint

nice work uncle it looks really great

i really like the type 1 it looks like how the car should have come out.

can you notice the cover ?

like how thin is it ? id there a pronounced lip were it butts up against the bonnet etc ?
leave the gun.... take the canoli's
