Subwoofer Installs

If anyone wants to listen to my system (and I reckon it is really VERY good, even if I say so myself) let me know when you'll be around Sydney and we can hook up.

I've been an audiophile for over 35 years and I reckon my system sounds as good if not better than any other system I've heard in a car, including my Mercedes with the optional high-end Bose system.

What type of sound system to you run, just out of curiosity? A bit of an audio man myself

You should come along to some of MEASQ (formerly CAASA) competitions in NSW. A number of impressive systems going around there with a number of guys who know quite abit about good sound.

Specs are as follows:-
12\" Kicker subwoofer in a custom fibreglass enclosure with a carbon fibre front measuring approx 45 litres
4x100 watt and 1x500 watt Cadence amplifier in custom false floor
Custom fibreglass side panels
Sound deadener everywhere
Various lights

A little too show for me personally but it definitely looks the goods!! nice work.

I know you put deadner in but do you still get any significant boot rattle??

Hey Luke. Thanks for the comments. I tried to keep it showy as it goes in autosalons but at the same time I tried to keep it practical and hard wearing as well. I used glass instead of perspex as not only does glass look better but it doesn't scratch. Also most of the install is carpeted so also hard wearing and the carbon fibre front shouldn't scratch easily either. I've left enough room for a couple of backpacks or small going away for the weekend bags as well as there being a door in the passenger side panel to access the jack, tools or cleaning products. Also the whole thing is easily removed in about 10 minutes for the track in future

I get a little bit of vibration in the boot mainly from the spoiler on the back. There is a loose nut in it and it is driving me slighty mad. Apart from that I have siliconed all the gaps up in between the frame and the boot skin as well as having gone over that with sound deadener and I have sound deadened the rear license plate as well. All in all it is pretty good considering

Oh and as for the spare, goo is your friend and an air compressor. I'd have to dump the wheel if I got a flat anyway and there is no way in hell that is happening.

MXHEVN the install is looking good so far but how much capacity are you leaving the sub. Also unless you are going to play music with the boot lid up, then the 6x9's are going to be lost in the boot. Looks really eye catching though

thanks ben, i'm not to sure on the capacity, but to give you an idea the sub box was originally moulded for the na boot, it should be plenty for my 10 inch, yeah the 6x9's are more for cosmetics and when i am setting up at autosalon, working on the 5 etc, they look alot better then it being a plain piece of mdf. i tryed making an install similar to yours but there wasnt much clearance for the sub and i cant see how there would enough capacity. (however i did try with two 10 inch subs )

Ahhhh you bought that one. I was thinking about it but the guy didn't have a picture of it installed for me to see. I had heaps and heaps of trouble trying to figure out a place to put the sub when I did mine and looked at that spot but I could only get about 15 litres from memory. Makes for a great spot to put the sub but I think it is a bit on the small side for a 10". Will still sound ok but wont give you it's best. The only way I found to maximise the space in the 5's boot is to go fibreglass. Doing wood for mine would have left me about 20 litres whereas fibreglass ended up about 45 litres. It will be a good install for autosalon as it really grabs your attention with the big Mazda symbol and the blue vinyl

yeah i got it off ebay. fibreglass does seem the way to go, i originally wanted to put 2 10 inch subs on the sides (much like the fxhm or whatever on the first page) but this came up and i thought i'd take it and see what happens with it, its all gone pretty smoothly, but now i just need to sus out the hole i cut and do some sound deadening.

nope, just used some of it for a template and slowly using the rest for scrap

anyone used the Bose sub from the Mazda 6 Luxury Sport thats fitted inside the space saver wheel? thinking of using such a setup myself so not much space is sacrificed. sure not a audiophile solution but i think i'd be satisfied enough.

also need to find out about the other Mazda Bose setup that uses a sub under the seat.
