Sway bar link problem?

Postby SKYHI » Tue May 27, 2008 1:05 pm

Hey guys,

Following a bit of advice from someone else I want to run my 24mm adjustable front sway bar on \"soft\". However I have a couple of issues that I would like some advice on.

Firstly this is how the sway bar link is currently connected to the sway bar \"middle\" setting.

Image

First problem is if I want to move back to the \"soft\" setting I'll need to bend the sway bar link as the bottom bush is 90 degrees to the top. I don't see this as a big issue but just wanted to make sure. The bigger issue is that when I go to move the link back, it hits the coilover before I can get the hole to line up, see here:

The only possible solution I can see, without getting some adjustable links, is to bend the link back and across to sit on the inside of the sway bar, something like below. Is this going to be an issue?

Thanks Chris. You going to Oran Park on the 13-15th of June?

Are they whiteline?
I just had a look at mine (signature bars) because I don't have the same problem, and it seems that my coilovers are much thinner (Cusco) so they don't hit. Maybe you could use adjustable end links and put them on the inside, or bend it, or both.

Yes it's a Whiteline sway bar. I will eventually get some heim jointed end links to give me the flexability I'll need but I might just try to bend the original links for now.

I'll post up a few photos when I'm done.

Well I bought a second set of links and did some experimentation. Here's the final product.

And installed:

We'll see how it holds up at Oran Park.

Quite a few people have had trouble with the Whiteline bars. Do you realise that the bar dimensions (niot just the thicknesses) are different for the different models?

It may be something to do with putting a bar with longer arm lengths on an NA6.

Bar length 822.3

1.6 OE arm length 227.0
1.8 OE arm length 235.0

NB arm length 215.9

1.6 FM arm length (inner) 228.6
1.6 FM arm length (outer) 248.6

Mines a NA8 so it shouldn't be a problem but it's an interesting point.

I have the original bar at home, I'll measure the two and see what differences there are. My first thought would be that the \"middle\" setting on the Whiteline bar is the same measurement as the standard bar because it bolted straight up to this setting using the original links.

Considering that the top and bottom bushes are 90 degrees to each other, there is going to be an issue as soon as you want to adjust the top bush forward or backwards, hence the need for adjustable links I guess.
