My 5 got beaten up

Postby CheyneX5 » Fri May 30, 2008 12:59 pm

 last night i came across a guy with a bit of road rage, i think i may have accidently cut him off  ... any how, he came up to the car and started kicking it, he kicked both my headlights in so they wont open but you can easily lift them manually ( i have an na6 btw ), he put a big dent in the side fender so now the driver door wont fully open and he kicked my side mirror off, snapping it at the hinges. luckily i am ok.

does anybody know if these misfortunes will be a costly expense or not? i am planning to visit dick at mx5 fact next week and from previous exp he seems quite reasonable with prices.

any help or knowledge would be much appreciated guys.

cheers

Wow not a nice experience! I do hope you got his rego and have called the police.

All parts are available but I doubt it will be cheap to have repaired, a bit hard to say without seeing the damage. Best to get in touch with your insurance company and let them deal with it.

(sorry you replied as I was, scratch the insurance bit then)

Yes.

Why won't they cover it? You can name the person at fault?

i dont really know actually, my dad was speaking to them so he didnt say (car is in his name) i am going to have to work my ass off to pay this:(

i wouldnt have thought it would be more than 600, side mirror i know will cost me bout 20 (the left one had the same prob bout a year ago) the side fender and the headlights are the only things that make me think otherwise.

are they usually expenseive items? and with the fender couldnt they just mould it back or push the dent out?

Whoa thats scary, Were you in the car when he attacked it? Even though you might have been in the wrong, he is even worse to do that. Should have tried to run him down with the headlights up, ouch.

Hope you fix it cheaply.

I'm not sure why your insurance policy doesn't cover malitious damage? I think I'd be shopping around for a new insurance company with all the nut cases around. And I seem to attract them all. Only last weekend some deranged lunatic in a Cooper S got all upset because I went past him, legally and safely without cutting him off. For some reason he didn't like that so decided he would try to drive through my passenger side door. I'm still mentally scared from the incident with a psycho Astra driver a few years ago. He had three attempts at crashing into me. The roads are a war zone.

My old MX5 got keyed and it was all covered by insurance, other than the excess I had to pay first, so I'm not sure why this type of damage is any different, unless you being in the car at the time changes things?

Ive seen something similar happen to an MG driver, he cut a van off. Later four guys jumped out of the van and smashed MG lights, windscrene etc.

Are you asking about the price because the insurance excess is $600 bucks, and you hope damages are less than $600?

MX5 factory is good but expensive IMHO, just go there and get a quote...

CheyneX5 you are not at fault- there is no excuse for a person to attack your car and fortunately you were not physically harmed. You and your dad have to sort out the insurance. I suggest you make sure the car is rwc- so make sure the lights function and your mirror works. Unfortunately body repairs and repainting is expensive but Dick will tell you what it will cost and if there are some less costly options- don't be shy asking for a bit of advice he is very experienced person. Whilst we all hate dents they are not always a functional problem so repair it when you can afford it. Let us know how you get on
