I was told by a mate doing work experience at Rotary Motorsport that they would do a $10k conversion for the MX5. Drive in, drive out.

I saw you got some work done by them; what did you get done there and was the cost reasonable? Did they mention their conversion?

I love high revving engines! 8)

Manga's guide:

1. Sell MX5

2. Buy RX7

Simple ... and you can sell it for about what you paid for it if you don't like it.

There is not enough words in the dictionary to counter that comment with disagreement 8)

Nice! job Mike, , great writeup for all considering a conversion and good to see people doing this too.

I have ordered and waiting on what I need to begin my conversion, so should start soon, :D

Im interested in what the main obstacles are in the engine mounting, and would love to hear how you and others have gone about their setups.
Although every setup is slightly different depending on engine gearbox combinations etc. meaning mountings position will vary,
what are the common issues (steering or other structural parts) that will need a work around.

Also what other mods(welds, cuts) have been made to the crossmember and Engine mounts, or changed on the cars chassis to accept the engine.

Thanks all,
Matt

I can add that its almost impossible to fit a 4inch exhaust past the steering rack.

just curiously, what are you putting in and what car is it going into?

Cheers Mike, doesn't sound too bad, similar issues to a 13B turbo converion in an 808 or such

I have a 99 NB, and looking at a N/A setup, probably a slightly moded Renesis.

With the stock mx5 box, can the bellhousing suit a rotary? i have never seen a BP engines bellhousing, but asumed it would be different.
Might make things a little easier if so :)

sounds like the best option maybe the Rx8 box, and Probably a good idea to do as Danny suggests and get a righten off Rx8 and transplant the entire driveline.

Whats the best place to find such a shell, or should i just try the regular importers?
Cheers, Matt
