Bucket Seats on Your P's

yeah thats my name i would like to come up there at some time, my girlfriends dad lives up that way so there is another reason to venture up that way but just going back on topic for a second... if i was pulled over and had a sprint in the 5, would a cop book me or just ask me lots of un needed questions ( i have not been pulled over yet and have had my license since feb this yr)

good question, I guess it depends on how thier day is going and how you treat them. The normal sprints don't seem as loud as the sprint V. Lots of forum members have them and have probably been pulled over while having then in the car so I'm sure they could provide some feedback.

A forum member did get pulled over while having some other more noticeably aftermarket seats installed and although they were issued a defect notice for other items the seats didn't raise a mention. But many members have pointed out this could possibly have been avoided by "yes sir" "no sir" answers

depends on who pulls you over I suppose.
up here is nsw highway patrol are a real pain, they would be likely to inspect your car fairly throughly if they thought you were doing anything wrong. But I dunno what its like down there for you guys.. though I doubt if you were pulled over for rbt or something that a regular cop would know much about it.

SM would know more about whether its legal etc etc if he doesn't get back to you, I'll hassle him for you Im pretty good at that.
All I know is that its suppose to be engineered and SM is paranoid time 1000000 about that. So maybe thats the place to start

On topic, it is pretty much as stated. If you buy a adr compliant seat you can install it and then get it engineered to comply and be fully road legal. As far as I am aware that is still the case on your p's as well. Having said that most people do not get their seats engineered (myself included). I have had mine in for a year now with no issues although it could be different for you being on your p's and also depends on the way you drive

or just get it engineered and you will be fine

(or it helps if your female.. I got away with heaps on my red P's cause the cops were surprised to find a girl driving, and driving a ute at that.)
So maybe just let your gf drive..!!

Apperently there is a sparco sprint V Jr. it should weigh less caus its smaller.

well, after a bit of research i am back.

i have been carefully looking at some bucket seats and i have narrowed it down to 2.

i do favour the tec, i had a sit in one at revolution race gear in ringwood yesterday and it was really comfrotable, the only queary i have with it is does have the same bottom design as the sprint 5 so it is just a direct bolt on to the stock mx5 rails, i also need to find a place that will give me an engineers cert for the seat, they are FIA approved but not ADR.

FIA standards surpass ADR's, so while the seat won't have ADR approval stamped on it, the seat does meet/exceeds ADR standards.

Check on the width of the Tec. I can't quite remember who much bigger it is to the Sprint, but the Sprint is one of a very few that will fit a 5 because of how narrow they need to be. Both the base and shoulder height areas are the issues.

Looks like the Tec is narrower than the Sprint... I have a Sprint and it fits nicely.

sorry to be a little delayed here, but when i got pulled over last year and defected for almost everything not stock on my car, not one officer (there was 4 of them) didnt seem to pick up that my seats wernt stock =/ or thought they wasted enough of my time ... nah. but it would depend on the officer, if you got pulled over by an officer that owns an mx5 then you'd be screwed (but which officer would own one? they like their commonwhores)

yeah maybe a female cop, but a male one ? i highly doubt it but still if they are adr (or higher) approved you shouldnt have any problems, if you do slug a fine then no panic as the officer was obviously on a power trip not listening or reading the label on the seat, you can go to your local mechanic, pull out some papers stating what the seats are approved are under and done. make sure you test fit some seats too, i didnt do this but i do love my seats, i sat in my mates sparco sprint and it is hasnt got much room for me, and the side bolsters come up too high for my liking, all personal prefference though.
