Bucket Seats on Your P's

Hey guys, my name is cheyne and i have had my license for about 3 months now and i want to put a sparco sprint in my 5, does anyone know if this is legal or if you need special certification etc?

the sprints are ADR approved but to make it fully legal it should be checked by an engineer

not sure about VIC but in NSW there is nothing wrong with having your P-plates and doing this they only have problems with \"engine modifications\"

as far as i know same thing in QLD

engine restriction and also kw restrictions

lucky me I'm on the old law so i'm not stuck on those laws

lucky bugger, oh well at least im not on the new system thats being introduced in vic next month. you have green p's for one year which means only one passenger and a 10pm curfew then your red p's for another 2 years with all the standard rules. sucks hey?

My understanding of the law is that as long as the seats are ADR aproved you should have no problems. The only modification issues specific to p platers relate to the engine.

And by the way i'm anouther p-plate mx5'er in Victoria. What model do you drive and where abouts are you from?

And the new laws wouldn't effect us, I dont think the one passenger and no phone rules are a dumb idea, although I think the 10pm curfew is a bit too far, I didn't relise that they got that through.

hey man, yeah theere are a few good thing about the new laws.

i live in southbank in the city and i drive a red 1989 na6 with a few extras like the boot lips spoiler and nardi steering wheel etc.

I might be reading this the wrong way, but I would disagree with the above statement.

The issue of after market seats needing approval is two fold. Firstly, the seat itself has to be able to meet the ADR standards for its construction. I believe a seat with FIA approval meets the ADR standards. Secondly, the seat must be mounted in the car correctly. This involves the use of appropriate mounting points and fixings, and also means that the seat must not be fixed in position. It has to be able to be adjusted fore and aft. I would expect that would be the same Australia wide.

I guess thats why there are lots of sprints in Mx5's, since they bolt onto the standard rails, hence use standard mounting points, and uses the stock bolts as well, while still being able to move forwards and back
