If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

The final journey

Postby StanTheMan » Sat May 10, 2008 9:10 pm

well....It was the beginning of the final Journey.
I couldn't help myself. I was supposed to hire a popper buffer wheel. I have a heap of buffing compound at Big Dogs place in the Blue mountains. I had spare cash & some spare time. So off i went to Auto 1 & bought some 1500 sanding paper a few maquire applicators & buffing compound. I was just going to do a little bit......honest.....I swear to god.

i sanded back the boot lid. as i knew it had a lot of paint on it. I sanded until there no bumps left with 1500 grid. It didn't take too long. then attacked half the boot lid with the applicator pad & buffing compound. Then came the polish & finally the wax. Couldn't believe the result. I was stocked. eventually did the beaver panel rear bumper & 1 rear side panel.

Tonight I'm happy as larry.

I have finally now got this awesome feeling of satisfaction. Which kind of deluded me when It came out of big dogs garage all painted red

here is another pic

here you can really see the difference.

The final corner has been turned........I can just make out the light.

Well done STM! That looks awesome, and just what i was hoping to see. I wondered how long you would be able to stand waiting

Keep going tomorrow but beware of the edges - dont rub too hard there. I leave for Beijing at dawn tomorrow, so I will expect to see patchy all glossy and smooth when I get back. Have you sourced a new beaver panel yet?

well....the bad news is. at this stage.....I'll have to re-do at least 2 rear quarter panels. The paint is too thin. The rear half....or at least from the doors backwards has all been buffed & polished. However there is all theses white marks where the paint has chipped off. from a few meters away it looks like a million dollars. but when you come close you can see all these white marks which look as though soeone flicked a paint brush over it from a distance.

Its not bad I can live with it like that for a while. Hopefully the paint on the doors is not as thin. I think I might spray 2L just on those 4 panels if I do it again.

But first Its Time to paint Big Dogs Trailer Now.

Big dog......Don't be shy. Just let me know when.

definatley not. The boot & bonnet were done 3 times. Majorety of paint is prolly on them. we started running out of paint towards the end.

I'd say I'll be getting another 2 liters & just rubb it back with 600 & lay it on top to get some serious thickness into the paint
