Brake and clutch fluid change

Postby GP14 » Mon May 12, 2008 11:09 am

How much of this stuff do i need. I'll be doing this hopefully on the GCDDIII. Will 2 bottle x 500ml be enough?

Cheers

2 may be JUST enough, but buy 3 so we can bleed it through thoroughly.
And get DOT3, maybe 4.

2 should be enough. I did it using 2. Don't do what i did and use different grades of brake/clutch fluid though, as the victorians found out =P. It appears that Dot4 is heavier than dot3 so the old dot3 fluid basically sat on top of the reservoir and i needed a syringe to get rid of it. Fun times.

Im sure you can do it with just two 500ml bottles

(its only 7 bucks for a third bottle its no big deal)

You wasted some when you did yours steve.
every ounce counts

thanks all. I'll get 3 bottles. I might try motul 5.1. After reading some other posts there doesn't seem to be any side effects with 5.1.

cheers

Easy job with 2 bottles.

Re flushing out the reservoir, suck it dry with a big syringe, then yank it out (straight up), clean and drain the rest. Then you'll have far fewer issues with mixing old and new fluid.

Yep, 2 bottles is plenty. Save yourself $15
Remember to keep the reservoirs toped up.
