Battery saver / Trickle chargers

Postby dangeradam » Thu Mar 20, 2008 5:48 pm

The blue beast is very much a garage queen these days and it will be coming back into very occasional use soon but like once a month. So what are people using and can you use to keep the battery healthy between runs.

I am talking about something thats other half friendly otherwise i'd just disconnect it.

thanks

I have a 1968 P1800 which I use very infrequently. I have a marine grade battery and keep it on a trickle charger that has a full charge cut-out. Has worked a treat for the past 4 years with the one battery.

Don't forget that very low usage will not just cause an issue with the battery, but water-pump seals and other bits will suffer from lack of lubrication.

Just do what I do and go for a leisurely 20-30 minute drive around the neighbourhood once a week.
Or the least you can do is let it sit at idle for 10-15 minutes once a week.

Just my little $0.02

Get a Battery Fighter...Supercheap has them...cames with a cable you can attach to the battery and you just plug it in and leave it.
NC Roadie, NC Racey, ND Racey….and a 30AE

Plus several others in the bone yard...

I have one on my motorbike and it's a Projecta brand. Works very well, considering I only take my bike out ones every blue moon.

If you want something of very good quality I would opt for a CTEK brand. They have different modes including storage charging & reconiditioning
