This list just really rams it into you how boring the colour palette of the MX5s are, doesn't it? :?

I have heard first hand from a forum member who saw (with his own eyes) a Crystal Blue NB8B with a chrome fuel lid and an SP sticker at a Brisbane Mazda dealer for servicing.

No photographic evidence I'm afraid. :frown:

It was apparently sold new in Qld.

I have my doubts about a Crystal Blue SP.

The colour was discontinued before the SP's were made.

discontinued how long before the SP's were made?

AFAIK the SP's were just standard cars taken off showroom floors etc and to the factory where they had the turbo stuff added. so if a crystal blue had been sitting around a showroom for a while then it would have been a good candidate for the conversion, no?

Then it can return to sitting in the same showroom as an SP for a while longer :P

Didnt i hear that it took a while for the dealers to clear all 100 SP's??

Did they come from showrooms though? I thought they came direct from Mazda Australia and were sent to dealers already SPed.

I've been wrong before though.

there is your answer

MX5-SP QLD
Casey ACT
are the two white ones

Well, if we apply some logic here... If there's no Crystal Blue SP (...dries Jules tears) then there must be either a mis-count of the above list ...or there were only 99 SPs produced ...or ...Casey... maybe there's a 3rd Whitey out there????!!!

The cars were randomly selected from Mazda's holding yard, not from dealers.

All the SP's were sold off by mid 2003. Not bad I guess seeing as there was no advertising from Mazda other than motorshows. Sales were generated from word of mouth and a couple of magazine articles.

A couple of little birdies told me that a number of cars were \"ordered\" in a colour of their choice.
Some people who have close ties with Horsley and/or inside goss, managed to put in an order. No?

Yes, Casey is quite open about the fact that, after hearing Mazda were not going to make any in white, he threatened death and permanent disability upon them all. Needless to say, he was sooper pissed when they made a second one.

I might have mentioned it once or twice before

A correction though - I had my order in about 18 months prior and was then told about 8 months out that white was not going to be an option. Seemed a bit silly not to have Japan's racing colour on offer, and Mazda Australia did that with the RX8 initially too (and the SE). Have since seen some RX8s in white and they look great (as does the SE).

If only Darby owned his white SP before his silver one, then mine could well be the one and only

Why? The model is an Australian only issue. They could have made it green with gold accents, now that could be a worry.
