squeaky timing belt?

unlikely the timing belt would squeal.

have you checked the tension in the accessory belts?

did you have the waterpump, runners, timing belt tensioners, cammseals changed as well?

CJ5 just go back to your mechanic and ask him to take look. The squeal might be the belt slipping under acceleration. Yr mechanic will know what to look for.

Could it be your \"fan\" belt? (even though there is no fan, i just dont know what else to call it) I presume it was removed in order to do the timing belt. It may need to be retensioned.

mine tends 2 squeak in warm up too, but it then goes away, its been doing it for ages, would be curious to know what it is also

Try removing the A/C and power steering belt and see if the noise goes away. If still noisy, take off the water pump and alternator belt and see if the noise stops.

Don't run the engine for more than a minute from cold though with the water pump belt removed. Should be plenty of time to determine whether the noise stops or not.

New belts for the water pump/alternator and power steer/airconditioner often squeak a few days after being fitted. It's just initial stretch. They just need retightening. Usually once is enough.

Easy test: Squirt soapy water on one of the belts. If the sound goes away then it was that belt.

If the sound doesn't go away, try the other.

But yeah, I'm with everyone else on this one. Have the belts retensioned.

My other car had a squeal which I thought was something that was too tight, so all I did was spray a bit of lanolin on them.
It would go away, but come back a few days later.
My mechanic tightened a tensioner or two and the squeal is gone. So like the others suggested, tigthen some tensioners.
