I wish I wasn't looking after 3 kids with a badly sprained ankle. Life could be so much more fun right now. I can't even drive.

Well, the bit I was REALLY anxious about is done; drilling a hole in the sump for the oil drain tube.
After advice from Gary Stewart, things progressed without a hitch.

Photos will hopefully be up tomorrow.

Yeah, the drain plug is in nice and tight now.
I was sh#tting bricks cause we couldn't figure out how to use and turn the tap-bit properly, but after a quick phone call to Gary Stewart, he told us that it's ok to just use a shifter-wrench, give it a quarter turn, tap it with a hammer, quarter turn, hammer-tap, repeat about a dozen times.

Worked like a charm :D

I'm hoping to be there around 12:30 tomorrow, and finger's crossed, it will be back on all four wheels by then.

Tuning Ron's Haltech Interceptor is the next (and last) scary bit.

Looking forward to seeing you there Geoff.

No... I mean Yes... I mean.... Ron, his son and mate will be there early, and will be turning spanners from 8 or so... right Ron?

It's just that I can't be there due to Church in the morning.

turbo install

Postby Novice1 » Mon Apr 28, 2008 10:19 pm

Ok, turbo is up and running. Recommendations for a tuner, familiar with haltechs, mx5's and turbos .

So far Romano's , John Whittaker. I, am thinking Chip Torque or APC at Underwood.

I, intend to get the car towed to a tuner. Not taking any risks. Oh yeah recommendations for engineering. wanted also

Intercooler mounts onto two bolts holes that were unused.

This is the stock routing of the cabin heater hoses:

We had to cut the heater-return hard-line (that runs along the engine) and therefore had to swap the longer IN with the shorter OUT hoses around. Fits better than what the stock looked like.

And now for some dodgyness:

Ron standing on the stock headers whilst his son Scott tried to get the nut off the EGR valve.

The customised spanner Scott made in order to get to the middle nut of the exhaust manifold.

Extra special thanks to Ron's wife for putting up with us and for making the best lunches AND the best desserts I have had for a looong time (sticky date pudding & bread n butter pudding, Mmmmm) :D

Ron, we have to catch up so I can take some more photos of the finished product. If you are going to Gary Stewart's place, please call me cause I am only 10 minutes away.
