Battery is definitely inside the siren. You can either buy a straight siren or one with a battery backup. I'm 'guessing' the siren is just a dumb device so you should be able to buy one off the shelf.

yes the battery is located inside the housing, but it's not just a dumb device it also had the shock sensor and ajustment dial inside the casing

Remove one of the battery cables. All the lights should die and only the siren will sound.

no need, there is a test position and as stated already it just wails to death in a few seconds


and on another note, currently looking at making a replacement, should be done in 2 weeks or so since I couldn't find an off the shelf replacement

If you ring around the alarm installers I reckon you could still find a suitable replacement.

It may not be the batteries which are faulty but some other part of the siren or even the black box under the dash?

ok well just finished putting the new battery in, and it all works great
works when tested from the siren box and when arming the alarm

couldn't find a ready made battery so I got one made up by battery world, ordered on monday picked it up at 5 this afternoon

why didn't u just replace the siren?

battery was a relatively easy thing to replace, just soldered it in

and I couldn't be bothered looking at other sirens to check that they were the same
