Which Brake Fluid For Road and Track?
Hi,
I am heading to the track with my NC.
I would like to put in some heat resistant brake fluid.
Is Motul Dot 5.1 suitable?
What other fluids do you reccomend?

Dont think so.
I can get the brakes to fade with a spirited drive through the suburbs ;)
Definitely need to get some new brake fluid.

we only have 1 regular competitor in an NC at our vic track days, he seems to be doing fine with his standard set up. it would be great if you joined up for some competition tho, i'm sure he'd like a challenge. he managed to beat all the other nc's at the winton natmeet track day so be warned he is a good steerer

I am running stock pads at the moment.
The only mod I have done to my car to date is Tein Super Streets.
When I had the car at Broadford during the Mazda Drive day I found that I was getting some brake fade up the back straight at around 165kph.
Funny thing is that I got less there than in the suburbs.
I am off to Winton in a few weeks so wanted to change the fluid prior to that and try and avoid fade if I can.
I have two friends with NC's who do not ever seem to get fade (stock pads/fluid).
I do however push quite a bit harder than them.

I have only had the NC since late 07 so I dont really know the MX5 scene too well yet.
What do you mean when you refer to "our vic track days" ?

sorry if i have my facts wrong.
there was 2 comps at natmeet, afaik. 1 for the natmeet folk, and 1 for the vic motorsport folk who were just there for the track day (not part of natmeet). i think he was the fastest NC on the day, but was not part of the "natmeet" comp per se.
i could be wrong (i often am )

the vic mx5 club has regular sprints at local tracks ( phillip island, winton, sandown, calder etc ) , i strongly suggest you join in on the fun!!!! send me a pm with your email address and i will send you all the details.
Motul Dot 5.1 is recommended for cars with ABS and is superior to any of the standard dot 3 or 4 fluids.
Motul RBF600 is a high performance DOT4 brake fluid and has a higher dry and wet boiling point than the 5.1. I've read that it goes off sooner than the 5.1 which is untrue as shown by the wet boiling point (or boiling point for 1 year old fluid or fluid with a bit of absorbed water)
Motul Dot 5.1
Dry boiling point 270 °C
Wet boiling point 185 °C
Motul RBF600
Dry boiling point 312 °C
Wet boiling point 216 °C
Has anyone manage to get brake fade with the 5.1 on the track?.
