Help needed tonight, Alarm backup battery?

Postby Alex » Thu Apr 10, 2008 7:37 pm

I've been having problems with my alarm over the last week or so
basically I lock the car then the alarm goes off straight away and I have to deactivate it by unlocking via the remote, normally after about 5 goes it finally stops and locks as normal
I've been reading through the normal manual, security system manual and the workshop manual and nothing could be found out
so today I had a quick play around and it seems that the backup battery has decided to give up on me :frown: when in the test position it just wails slowly to death :(
so just wondering if anyone knows where the backup battery for the upgraded mazda alarm is kept (might want to PM me since it's a security thing) and/or what type of battery it is and approximate cost of replacement?

I'll see how the reply's go but tomorrow I'll be heading to the mazda dealer to see if they can help out as I would like this fixed up ASAP

not sure if the case is the same with the factory alarms but the battery is normally built into the siren

so you would need to replace the siren

Is there a keyhole to disarm the alarm completely. Should be in the back of the siren. Thus the battery is in there. May be able to get one from Jaycar (the whole siren with battery) ?

yes there is a keyhole, but when disarmed it still has the flashing hazards it only turns off the sound
I'm not sure if the battery is located inside that box either because I though backup battery was an extra option for the alarm system

Battery is definitely inside the siren. You can either buy a straight siren or one with a battery backup. I'm 'guessing' the siren is just a dumb device so you should be able to buy one off the shelf.

I'm interested to see if you're able to resolve this, could be a bit of handy info.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Remove one of the battery cables. All the lights should die and only the siren will sound.

Just dismantled my siren, hoping to find a battery which I could replace. What I found 'though was circuit board with a 6V 170mAh battery fitted. The battery isn't able to be replaced as it is soldered on to the PCB and held in place with some kind of adhesive. I gave up when I found this and just put it back together while I consider what to do next

ok well here is how it went
went to Mania to see if they could help out
no luck, alarm wasn't fitted on the imports so i couldn't just swap over the box
Mazda was called to see what they could do since it's listed as a \"genuine\" mazda alarm. They had no idea, headoffice supplied contacts for the company they had contracted to make the alarm system, the number turned out to be wrong. The proper company was tracked down and called, after the part numbers were given they said they did have one in stock but they didn't know if it worked or not so they would find out and call back, haven't heard anything yet so we will have to wait until monday

it's a bank of 5 batteries located inside the siren as others said, from the original maker we found out it's actually a bank of 5 batteries, to get it off a good hairdrier and soldering iron would be required, hairdrier for the glue and soldering iron to melt the solder
Jaycar don't stock the battery

It's a bank of 5 x 170BVK batteries, of the Sylva Charge brand

updated before tuesday hopefully

I was thinking about it but i'm not sure what else the siren is connected to, like the motion sensor in the cabin and the shock sensor

but if I can't find a battery I guess I'll just have to replace the whole thing but I'm going to use that as a last resort

AFAIK the microwave sensor is connected to the alarms control unit hidden up inside the dash.

Sounds like you can just replace the siren.

the siren should be completely seperate to the alarm

microwave and all that add ons are hooked into the alarm box which is usually somewhere else
