This morning I received my Classic fuel lid that I ordered a couple weeks ago. I was going to order one from Zoom Engineering in Japan, but I found a cheaper alternative in USA.
It came with no instructions, so I thought I would do a step by step installation guide for others to follow.
Heres the kit in the Box.
Removed from the box (base plate, lid, hinge, lid spring)
Installation
First you need to remove the fuel cap.
The two screws that hold the standard fuel lid on need to be removed, and also the 4 black screws around the base of the fuel pipe.
Once that is done, remove the big nut and washer around the mechanism that springs the lid open.
With that all done it will look like this.
Next mount the new fuel lid hinge into place using the original screws.
Next install the polished baseplate.. The hinge slips through the square hole in the baseplate, and the lifter mechanism you can move around until it goes through the round hole on the base.
With the base plate sitting flush replace the 4 black screws around the fuel pipe, and also the nut/washer on the lifter mechanism.
Now we need to attach the new lid, to the hinge with the supplied bolt/washers. The bolt goes through the spring washer, washer,hinge, lid spring, and finally into the lid.
Lastly make sure everything in tightened up, replace the fuel cap, close the lid and thats it.
Retro goodness.. 8)
It goes nice with the old school Simmons.
