Any one tried Nulon oil? *Updated*

A forum search did not show anything on Nulon oil.

They claim 30% reduced friction over equivalent oil??

Its synthetic, Aus made ?, and has a price advantage.

Has anyone had good results with it?

I usually use Penrite oil, but would like to give it a go.

It's funny how Nulon keeps rearing it's ugly head every few years. It's never worked before, Don't know if there is an improvement since the old days.

I've been using quite a bit of the entire Nulon range (gearbox treatment, engine treatment, brake fluid, etc), except their new engine oils.

No idea if it works as much as they claim or not, but for the small outlay of each additive I buy, my opinion is if there's a chance it works, it's worth $20-$40 every few years or so.

Last time I checked pricing, it's the same as an equivalent Castrol or Valvoline oil, so I reckon there's no harm in trying it out.

it's well regarded on OzMazdaClub.com, i'll be giving it a go after i use up my current Penrite bottle.

I have been using their Synthetic 10w-40 for about 2 years.

I have used a few synthetic engine oils in the MX5, Motul 300V Chrono, Castrol Edge, and a few others I cant remember, but the best results were with the Nulon oil.

First time I used it a couple years back, I did notice that the engine felt alot smoother and more responsive then it did running the Motul. I didnt read the Nulon bottle about the whole 30% less friction crap, I just bought it and slapped it in. Since then it is all I have used in my MX5, its a sensible price, and runs great.

When I change oil I also run Nulon engine Flush in the old oil, and also use their Lifter Free in the new oil. I have never had a problem with lifter noise, and my engine runs great.

No harm in giving it a try, I did and was very happy.

Haven't used Nulon oil but I dont know why you would change from Penrite! I have been using Magnetec for years in my Eunos 500 and also the MX. The Eunos started using oil after 220000 kms and when I took it to Russellb's dad he told me to try Penrite hpr 10. I've done that for the last 3 oil changes with a great improvement. I changed oil in the MX last week (magnatec) and the next day the tappets were really noisy. I know it was cold in Canberra but when I read an archives file I decided to change the oil. Out with the new magnatec and in with the Penrite. Tappets completely silent and engine is idling so quietly. Also using it in my Honda Integra. I'm sold on Penrite!

i've tried a fair few different oils in my car already. nothing wrong with penrite but i wouldn't say my car likes it the most overall, or more specifically the penrite semi synthetic 10w50 anyway. it seems that while on the stuff it'll smoke less under hard throttling but smoke more on a cold start where as other oils were the other way round. & it just doesn't seem to rev as quickly on any w50 oil compared to w40.

eventually i'll get around to magnatec & penrite full synthetic too. at the moment i'd say MarioKart likes penzoil semi synthetic 10w40 the most so far, interestingly. the worst has been the shell helix range..

Thanks everyone - Im going to give it a try - I'm due for an oil change before the next track day -
I will also will try a Ryco filter as the Mazda ones seem to be draining back over night.

Friction is related to viscosity. if it had a substantial friction reduction over other 10w-40 oil, then it would have the numbers 0w-30 not 10w-40.

Thats what the Society of Automotive Engineers(SAE) say
not Nulons Marketing Staff.

Update on Nulon try
I changed to the 10W40 Synthetic ($42.00/5litres)before the 300km trip to the last track day at WPk - Noticed an increase in power and more willing to rev.
There is another 1600NA with a std engine that usually can slighly pull away from in 3rd gear down the straigh and up the hill but I now am able to match him!!
The oil is still crystal clear after 900kmon a 180KKm engine.
I will be sticking with it now on.
