best bang-for-buck performance tyre

The Kuhmo's are alright. I found that when they were new they ran fairly well in both wet and dry. After having them for about 20,000 km they're not as good as they were though. I find that they're giving out a lot easier, but it could just be me pushing the car harder as I've learnt what I can/can't do with it.

Still, on price alone, they're quite good.

HI,

I have just had some Kumho KU31 205/45/R16 put on the MX - cost $156 per corner. Had the tyre people do a wheel alignment according to the alignment specs found in the tech achieve area.

The handling of the car has been transformed. This is partly due to new rubber and part to a good alignment and spec's.

I was going to put Bridgestone Adrenaline tyres on but several people suggested trying the Kumho's and at $60 less per corner I thought I would try them.

So far they are excellent but have not given them a go in the wet yet.

well after about 500km on the kumho's im very surprised how sticky these tyres are...i havent been able to lose traction(havent particularly tried yet, just testing the tyres limits).

turn in is exceptional, only negative i could give is a slight lack of 'response' through the steering wheel but i am due for an alignment...

no wet weather yet in sydney so cant comment on that...

i got them for $115 per corner for 205/40/17.

simple........supply & demand, 17's are the flavour of the month & every manufacturer stocks & sells heaps, big demand = competitive prices

16's were only flavour of the week, manufacturers don't have the demand that warrants a competitive price point, as well as a lack of variety amongst the big guys = charge what they want.

AJ is right to a degree.
i put it down more the fact WHERE you buy them.
i got mine from 7 day tyre centre/tempe tyres in sydney.
they import; and hence cheaper prices.
i dont understand why people go to places like bridgestone and kmart tyres and the alike...

it is hard to get good deals on 16s

a former neighbour of mine used to work at Tempe tyres (why did he move back overseas )
He used to tell me (in his best Lebanengrish ) when shipments came and went, so I could always get a sneek of what to expects, Tempe were always $20 cheaper than anywhere else local.

I am pretty happy with the Kuhmos. They do grip now with approx 4000Kms on them, I have found their limits and they are a very nice tyre for the $$.

What I found surprising was I asked Tempe Tyres for a price on the new Bridgestone Adrenalines, and their price was $5 more expensive per corner than my local Jax.

Well... after seeing KK's NC on Yokohama S(hit) Drives on the Oxley Run on the weekend I would have to say the Precedas leave the Yokohama's for dead.

i would say that is large supply complementing large demand =]. But then i'm just being pedantic and slightly bitter that 16' tyres are so expensive.

but you're right, lack of supply for 16' means charge whatever.

my vote for the toyo T1-R..here in New Zealand the toyo is much cheaper than the others..i payed only $160 each for my 205/45/16, compared to $210++ for the other makes of similar performance.

I'm very happy with the Yoko S-Drives in the dry, not so in the wet though. At $130ea for 205/45/16 I got a great deal. Not sure what the RRP is though. I think I'll be trying the Goodyear F1 Asymmetric next.
