They would have cost like over 3 grand wouldn't they? You're crazy.

I do love that inspirational car, he painted the boot lid, and the engine has irtb looks like took of fuel injection too. I want his what looks like a CF roof.

I think you can say goodbye to your MX5 handling nice though. I would also be parking about 1m out from the gutter to protect them :mrgreen: , cant wait to see them on the car.

You can get fake Work Equips.. They are DRAG DR20's in 15x7 +10 offset.

Not bad for $300us a set, plus shipping. :shock:

But im sure they would be no match for real Equips, in detail, strength, etc.

Yeah on US ebay they go for around $300us a set. The real killer getting them here would be shipping. I would say around $1000aus for the set delivered..

Shipping for Chapparals which weigh about 8kg each was $380 US to Geelong; some companies have absolutely no idea and one Ebay mob wanted $600 US.

Dodgy Haro, did you try Work wheels australia/NZ, how did their prices compare. I was quoted a reasonable price including shipping, but they failed to answer my question of whether some sized are cheaper than others, are they all custom made?

No, some do some don't.

The Chapparals you saw on my car won't but the later ones on Juffa's will.
It is an individual thing as far as aftermarket wheels go. Not sure about OE ones.

hmm...i'm considering going down to 15' to get access to cheaper tyres as well as a not insubstantial reduction in unsprung weight.

Wheels didn't cost as much as some would think ... but it was definitely less than $3k for the full set including duty + GST. I did enquire with the local Work dealer here but in the end, importing them yourself came out way cheaper and if caught by customs, the duty + GST would have put them on par with the Australian distributor's quote.

Final price really depends on width size + offset - the more crazy, the more $$$. Yes, like Simmons rims, each set are custom made to the customer's specifications.

I enquired at most US and Jap suppliers and Glenn Kowta at Upgrade Motoring came up with the best quote. I've also heard of his name from other ppl on the net so knew he was reliable:

He not only can supply Work Equip but also SSR rims too including the tasty Mk1 - 3's.

Still, my experience is that I had to wait as Work Equip do not manufacture 14\" rims often and (as they did in my case) they even may get your offset wrong however I wasn't phased as it was more -ive offset.

Am definitely not gonna sell these - I already regret selling my AE86 long ago and have learnt not to be too impatient in offloading things which don't seem to get off the ground. I reckon the secret is to stick with your project car and the longer you hold it, the better you can make all the little things that you hate about it. Unfortunately having a house mortgage to pay plus a nissan micra project on the go means I will have to forgo the MX5 coilover and tyre stuff for a while yet.

I don't believe that handling will suffer that much but it's different for each person ... my previous AE86 was 85mm off the ground but was the best handling car I've ever had, even better than my MX5 currently. I will be going for (defect) low + huge camber but I don't think I run much risk these days of getting caught as I only drive my MX5 once a week and not in hot spots.

Probably spewin as our aussie dollar is stronger now and I would have been happy with the Drag copies however no one seems to want to export these to Australia - same goes for V-Maxx coilovers. Check out the XXR copies too.
