Fitting other Steering wheels into NA6?

Postby li21 » Fri Mar 28, 2008 9:11 pm

Hey all,

Just wondering is it possible to fit one of the factory steering wheels into an NA6?
My NA6 just has the momo wheel on a boss kit..

I'd like either

bottom one should fit since it's a momo.

top one won't as it's nardi, and will probably be expensive buying one with an intact airbag centre.

I've got the factory NA6 wheel, will the NA8 (as pictured) go right into the facotry boss kit?

Cheers mate. For your information...this particular Momo wheel has an integrated boss ie. the wheel and boss are one unit and cannot be separated. The interior is from a 1996 NA - VR Ltd B spec (JDM).

As far as the steering shaft spline is concerned, from NA through to NC they are all the same. However, how the various steering wheels interact with the various column surrounds and indicator/light stalks/airbag units; I wouldn't be surprised if there were some conflicts between models.

Danny

Thanks Danny..

That woul dmean I could put an NB steering wheel on an NA.. so long as I dont expect the airbag and controls to work..

And Im guessing there should be no problem fitting your wheel (NA8 Momo) to my NA6? But issue is finding one!

Yes and you are correct, the air-bag won't work unless you have everything else that goes with it.

Yes, definitely no problem fitting the NA8 wheel on an NA6. Yeah there's not too many of them floating around. Have seen them on ebay only a few times in the past 3 years.

Danny

1.Forget about fitting the NB wheel...not worth putting on a air bag...will cost you a fortune...I could sell you a steering wheel but it goes with the 2 Air bags...would cost you $1500. minimum.

2.As stated the late model NA Momo wheel has the boss as part of the steering wheel...but it does fit any model NA or NB.

Sorry this may sound silly, but it is alright to use a NB steering wheel that has alreayd had its airbag deployed?

hence im using the wheels only for the wheel and the airbug stuff taken out?

I know theres a a few wrecking NB's around that had the airbag deployed already? But im guessing its not cheap to repair the face of the steering wheel.

either way, I'd be hapy with an NA8 wheel if i could fine one!

You can use the deployed air bag but would have to get it recovered as it rips open...not sure if it would look very good.

By the way, this is what an Aust-delivered NA8 wheel looks like:

As Danny said the particular wheel you've linked is JDM.

The Momo wheel in the photo is the one fitted to the later model NA8s in Australia.

The wheel shown in orx626's car is the same as in my Aus. delivered 96 LE- no airbag.

It is hard to get off, when I took it for an alignment they could get it off to re-centre the steering wheel, had to compensate under the car.

Has anyone taken one off?
