Wanted : glass for NB 2003 fog light

Postby Jeremy Owen » Thu Mar 20, 2008 1:49 pm

A nasty stone smashed the glass of my left fog light. :( The light still works so I guess I just need the glass. Mazda want over $300 to replace it! Where do I go to get this 30c worth of glass?

Probably nowhere. I suspect the lense is sealed onto the light's body.

When you do get it replaced, remember to fit some of the thick vinyl headlight protector stuff to help stop this happening again.

Apparently its a ford part.

On miata net you can find pplz that pruchased this exact same part for like like 1/3 the price from ford.

http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.ph ... +fog+light

Thanks to info that I found in this forum, I saved approximately $200 on a new foglight for my 2002 MX5. The foglight for a 2002/3 Mercury Marauder (PN 3W3Z-15200-AB) is EXACTLY the same light as installed in the Miata, with the exception of the shape of the elevation adjustment screw. The screw on the original light has a large hex head on the end to allow the use of an end wrench while doing adjustments, while the Mercury light has a round shaft with a phillips head for use with a screw driver. Otherwise, it was identical and the plug for the wire harness is also the same. Miata thinks that this light is worth $243 dollars, while Ford feels that $56 is sufficient. I did find a place on the web that would sell me the Miata light for $190, but elected to go with Bob Utter Lincoln Mercury in TX, who sent me one for $46 plus $6 for UPS shipping. It took me about 30 minutes to change it, with removing the wheel and undoing the lower part of the inner fender liner. Anyway, I am an extremely happy camper, thanks to information that I found in this forum. Thanks so much!

Jeremy try the wreckers for a used lamp or one with an intact lense. I have not had the lamp apart but the most common way of fixing the lenses is with hot melt glue but you can also bet that Mazda do not service the glass lense.
Another option is buy an aftermarket fog lamp as a replacement- try Hella in Melb or check the catalog- you might be lucky. Also you might find an alternative OE fog lamp which will fit and then use the wrecker route. Probably someone will know what else fits. It is all a matter of packaging. Lastly try the Headlamp Factory Melb 9560 6200 who repair headlamps and they might have some clues.
Let us know if you find a solution apart from shelling out way too much.

The result is still driving around with a broken, but working, fog light. Not that I turn them on anyway.

I have called MX-5 Mania a couple of times. No wrecks just in when I called. Not mad about sending off for parts from OS - hassel to return etc. Doesn't electricity flow in the other direction in the northern hemisphere?

I should get off my butt and chase down the Ford part.

there were recent posts on Miata about fog's and there are options to replace the unit. I reckon they are a good thing to have on dull days in the country- better to be seen.
