Mr Comet,

Thems wheels, they is the horn, intensely jealous.

Went for a drive and there were slow cars everywhere, why are NC's so common . . . must be NC = Normally Cardiganed.

Fantastic job green_comet. Having just done mine (from gold to steel grey I know what you went through. But can you tell me if the polished rim section was clear coated? I got a good shine up on mine (put the wheel on the car and ran it in 2nd gear as I held the polishing rag next to it) but when I clear coated it, it did not come up as shiny. If yours is not coated I presume you have to polish it to keep the shine?

Well done, looks sensational.

Always liked either gold or gunmetal with polished lips on white cars.

The lips are not clear coated.. I found with my old 3 piece rays that as long as you give them a clean once a week, and a polish/wax once every couple months, they will stay shiny.

They guy who polished them said not to clear coat them as they will go dull, and not look as pimp...

Thanks for that info green_comet. Wish I had known beforehand. Looks like I will be busy stripping the clear off over Easter break!

I'm so glad you didn't put the centre caps back on. Look much better with out I reckon.

Where did you get the black lip spoiler?

Yeah the centre caps were an eye sore...

The rear lip spoiler I got from Mossy, he had it in the for sale section about 2 years back, it was blue originally.. :D

Bump to a VERY old thread. Any advice on which paint stripper brand to use?
I'm mindful that some paint strippers can attach the aluminium and weaken the metal itself.

Having done my wheels I know the effort that you have put into these. You have done the right thing putting the clear coat on as it should protect the gold paint. In fact I think I will have to redo mine as after a few years there are quite a few chips. Anyone wanting to DIY completely, a tip to clean up a polished the rim that has discoloured or has lifting clear coat is to put the wheel on the car and with it jacked up run the car in first gear. Wet and dry (try 800 then 1200) then auto sol. Takes a lot of the effort out of the job.
