Where to put an external Amp?

Exactly why i thought of that space.

It is rarely used (when i ditch the mazda ecu, it is still in there for a moment) and already has securing points that would be more than adequate.

The only thing would be amp thickness, but I have a 2 channel that is only 30mm thick, so it might be the same.

Then again, i do get lazy nothing may evetuate.

Scrutineers take a long hard look at things like amps in the cabin space. They need to be solidly mounted so that they don't become lethal projectiles.
As Juffa knows, it's worth a thought if you're entered for the Natmeet track day.

Yep, another reason why I wanted it out of the cabin.

It's in the boot, standing at the back of the car it's on the side furthest away from you and to the right.

If you look at the larger image (click on the thumbnail photo) you'll see the hinge in the top right.

Okibi, do you have a sub in there as well? My Alpine 10\" is in the same location, facing the back of the car, just picked up a JL 300/4 which is going to run the splits and sub, not sure where to put it.

I'd like to retain easy access to the spare also.

No sub, I use to have 4 x 8\" 3ways .. now I just have a pair of them.

ampz you are onto a good idea there, and i have been thinking about exactly the same thing recently. once my megasquirt is fitted, i'll probably use the ecu securing points to hold a little amp.

track day scrutineering won't be an issue, as the amp will be removed for track days anyway.

I just melted some electronics mounted beside the ECU today - literally. Sticky droopy plastic and all. Knowing that, I would never, ever put an amp there.

I might also mention that the ECU was too hot to touch for about 10 mins.

I'm guessing some extreme exhaust temperatures heating up the firewall?

On the dyno. Only doing short bursts but the headers would still run up to dull red.

Trackdog header bag will go on in a couple of days but I figure I'll need a lot more than that. I'd say a sheet of ACL shielding from below the CAI to under the passenger's feet.

All credit to Mazda though, the stock ECU continued to function normally.
