Repco, SuperCheap, Autobarn. Any of these places should be able to help you out with oil.

I can assure you that there is a lot more of The Force associated with pumping almost 2L of oil into a gearbox with a squeeze pump than there is pooring oil into a funnel and letting it drain down a bit of pipe and into the gearbox. I've tried both methods and found the hose and funnel much easier, quicker and cheaper.

But, hey, if you like to spend all day pumping then feel free to pump away.

Technically the diff should use a slightly more viscous oil, but you can use the same as long as it's not thinner than 75w-80.

I used Pennzoil 80w-90 for both.

Advantage of havin 6spd box is you dont need a hose or pump you can fill it from the shift turret .

But he still needs a pump for the diff...

Except you still need to have the top fill plug open so you can tell when the box is full  I use a pressure filler hooked up to my compressor - fills the gearbox in about 15 seconds....you can buy the tanks from stoopidcheap. For the diff, just buy the 1l castol fill pack and use a little bit of hose as an extension and fill it up that way - takes 5 minutes.

Agree with Garry. I just changed my gear oil yesterday, ran a hose through the engine bay and funnel at the mouth. Except I used radiator hose. Redline MTL is good but much (much) dearer than $12.50/L. A breaker bar is also a good idea for avoiding misfortunes..

There's also a washer on the drain plug but I don't know if you need to replace that at every change like the sump plug.

hmm...this is getting a little annoying now. It seems i will need 3 quarts for the gearbox and 2 quarts for the diff. Is that right? or do i need less?

Don't really know what a quart is but roughly 2L for gearbox and 1L for diff. Basically, if you have more you can save it for next time (edit: just read what wun wrote). If you have less, you won't be doing yourself any favours.

no they dont remove the shifter to replace gear box oil.

But on the bright side you can do it yourself its really really easy.

Take the centre console off (about 5-6 screws in total).

remove the shifter and replace the rubber boots.

There is a real good write up on it at miata net.
