Auto Window Switch.

Dammit

I think the auto down switch is a 3 way potentiometer type thing which means you can't modify it to do an auto up as well. Even if you could, you'd have a fair bit of effort needed to pull the plastic bit apart to get to the plastic switch and make that a four point switch rather than a 3 point.

Although it's possible, it requires a fair bit of reverse engineering, and even then you'd need a custom PCB to accomodate both sides having the proper potentiometer type thing.

It can be done, but will require a fair bit of effort. It'd probably be easier to build one from scratch rather than try and reuse their parts...

Edit: right, read it. Good info on how to replace the relays. However, it doesn't really have any info about how to chop up a new one that works on both sides and also does auto up/down rather than just the standard auto down.

Speaking of, does anyone want to buy an auto down switch off me?

seriously tho, i'm thinking i'm going to compare a couple of things for you today, because i reckon...............that the window switches in the Isuzu are almost exactly the same dimensions as the ones in our 5's & could maybe (if the difference is in the switch only) transplanted.

I thought auto up would be a safety issue unless there was some sort of presssure detector in the system to detect a head/arm etc. being caught in the closing window.

I can handle holding both switches up in the NC for all of the 3 seconds it takes to close the windows..........and of course it has auto down for both anyway. :mrgreen:

Yup, I reckon there must be a part from another car you can buy off the shelf (other Mazdas, like he said, Isuzu).

just did a couple of checks before we get to the nitty gritty (this is for Craig & others, i personally couldn't give a rats ar$e about holding the buttons on ours)

right...........

measurements of the switches themselves:

Isuzu 17 mm wide x 25 mm long
NC 17 mm wide x 25 long
about the same shape

now, considering the difference in size of the windows & i assume that the switches have something that controls how long they wind up or down (i dunno)

anyway both the NC & the Isuzu take exactly 3 seconds up & 3 seconds down, which surprised me

so............i guess someone needs to be prepared to pull the switches out of their car to compare them properly to the switches on my truck, which are easy enough to get at.

We could be onto a winner here, altho Craig may have to do some measuring & timing on his SE to make sure :mrgreen:

I thought these auto switches worked on some form of current sensing thingo. ie when the window gets to the top it puts more load on the motor and the current sensor dooby turns the motor off. It also works as a safety device so that if you decide to try and chop off your finger by winding up the window then the current sensing dooby switches the motor off when the window presses against your finger and the current goes up.

The good thing about having the '5 is that the roof goes off, which means I can easily apply pressure to my window as it's raising with the auto switch and we'll see if it keeps moving or whether it automatically stops. No fear of crushed anything if there's no roof on ;)

I'll give it a shot over the weekend when I can be bothered and report back.
