hiding engine bay wires

hiding engine bay wires

has anyone tried hiding wires in their engine bay, anyone got any pics/ tips to doing it

it has been done, normally by the Honda boys though
think it's called tucking or something similar and it usually requires removing all engine wiring and making up a whole new loom with fuses relocated underneath the dash and wires running through the front quater panels rather than through holes in the firewall

Some of those cable sleeves and heat shrink wrap look like the ones you get for your PC at home! If your a total geek you belive that less cable clutter increases air flow.

its been done for years on older street cars and hot rods..

apparently there can be problems if you do a dodgy job.. and or use thiner guage wire than whats needed or dont insulate properly, as any type of electrical fault/fire that forms under the quater pannel you cant get at it to put it out :shock:

just want to hide the bulky wires like that pack going past the left of the rocker cover, i like things to look clean, and my car will be a show car sooner or later

You'll find it an easy and rewarding weekend job Crocaine without any cutting or drilling. You will need a longer piece of rubber tubing for the cannister which needs to be relocated under the wheel arch. Light wiring loom is a tight squeeze but you can get it around behind the headlights. Shifting the washer bottle to in front of the radiator is also a good cleanup move.

Looks like it's gaining in popularity as Hot Rods were the only ones I know of that have done it for decades.
Accel now make ignition wires that are an amazing 5.5mm thick, but with the same RMI suppression qualities, just for this purpose.
