Breathe easy if it's just a driveshaft CV joint.......much better than a dead diff.
No probs JBT

No probs JBT- and it looks like a driveshaft CV joint (well - sounded like it)
You have been a naughty boy!

Don't be too surprised if it's the diff though.

So you put it in gear and let out the clutch and wheels don't turn? Unless the drive shaft actually fell out; I think it's diff.

If you've broken a CV joint. Wouldn't it stick out like dogs balls?
You'd have bits of bearing flying everywhere .
My diff made all sorts of grinding noises when it had gone pear shape. but in my case the dead give away was the fact that the dif case was split & the oils was leaking & left a nice tell tale to where i'd rolled to to stop.
Anyway I hope its not the diff......another pretty expensive excersise....but then. mmmmm....more upgrades for UA.

Weeeeellllllllll..
It ain't the uni joint. Pinion gear has shattered. Chipped a few teeth on the crown to boot. Mazdaspeed centre is still good.
Will be looking to put the lot up for sale to interested buyers to explore the torsen option. I bought this complete from Cal a while back, had it rebuilt, so I can tell you how much you should expect to pay to have this rebuilt. I needed a new pinion. You are obviously going to need new crown and pinion. I would suggest a full rebuild because of possibility of metal shavings, but the centre is intact - I'll strip it to be sure.
It has held up to well over 110 RWKW for a while now, so would be great for a NA version with a bit of grunt - just don't use the mazda pinion gear - get an aftermarket made up. If you are interested, let me know.
Here's a pic........
