Car Alarm Add-on for NC Model

Postby IB1ZA » Mon Mar 03, 2008 9:05 pm

Greetings,

I have just purchased a Mazda MX5 NC Roadster Coupe and want to upgrade the alarm unit.

I want to use the existing Mazda supplied remote for central locking and i like the way the key folds into the remote.

I have seen that Mazda have alarm units for sale but they are a RIP !!!

I want to find an alarm that will do the following
1. Work of the same remote supplied by Mazda that controls my central locking.

2. Have a microwave sensor to detect move meant around the car. (I want the alarm to allow me to turn the microwave sensor on and off)

3. Put Windows up automatically if windows are down.

Anyone have an idea of a unit that could do this and the cost?

I would suspect most car alarm installers will be able to supply & fit a unit that does as you require.

For example, local Perth Alarm installers "Action Alarms" have this one:

Cheetah 455

Action Alarms mainly resell Dynamco alarms which are sold Australia (and NZ) wide, so I'm sure you can find a local installer.

I'd be very surprised if other alarm manufacturers don't have a similar product too.

many places should be able to do it

I've got a similar sort of thing in my car
Up to Australia standards has 3 point immobiliser
it has microwave sensor, shock sensor, detects door, boot, bonnet opening

window up and down, boot release

might add a tilt sensor to the kit soon

but yeah

most factory remotes doesn't have a second channel so you can't get it to lower your windows nor can you have boot release

because mines got a seperate remote its got 2 channels actually 3
Press I once and it would lock + windows up or unlock
Press I again within a few seconds and boot would release
Hold II and windows will go down an inch or two hold it longer and it will go all the way down

but keep in mind i think window lifters are approx $200 alone

Got quoted $700 to supply and install a car alarm for my MX5.

The company who supplied the quote are: Australian Vehicle Security

The alarm is Cyclops S485 http://www.dynamco.com.au/cgi-bin/produ ... model=S485

Window Lifter is included & microwave.

They will wire two switches in the car to enable/disable the microwave and window lifter.

What do you guys think?

I suggest you get one which is up to Australian Standards
black wiring i think 2 point immobiliser

Its a Must for Insurance purposes

which is why i got my alarm because in my insurance policy it states for theft coverage i need to have an immobiliser which is up to Australian Standards but i went a bit further and got an Alarm as well :D
