hi guys,
i have the whiny gearbox (whines in 1,2,3 and5 th) and i have been thinking about taking the tranny out to change my clutch and possible change the input shaft bearing as well as seals.
My question is, is it possible to take this bearing out without taking the tranny apart?
Has anyone done this? if yes, could you give us some advice.
Thanks.
Jahn

You are going to have to Strip strip the box compleatly .
the noise is proberly coming from the front Layshaft Bearing and not the
input shaft bearing. the Layshaft only comes into play in 1,2,3,5th gear
in 4Th gear the Input and Output shafts are conected together, so no load goes throught the layshaft . either way the box need to be striped.

As long as it shifts ok, you're wasting your time. Can't expect to own a performance car without a few noises! Mine wines in 2nd and 3rd too.

well my gerbox whines big time... the noise has got louder in last couple of months, and in first and second gear it sounds exactly like a superharger whine which is cool but worrying
Also, it feels like there is a bit of a slack in the driveline which i am relating to the same problem problem.. has anyone experienced this? if anyones got it fixed in sydney how much would i be looking at if i take the gerbox out and take it to reconditioning person:)?
thanks for the advice guys...

A rebuilt one could cost anywhere from $1k up - most guys won't give you quotes until they open the box. I just had my SE box rebuilt in wollongong so pm me for their details if you are interested.
i dont think think it is worthed to get it rebuilt as i can get a 6 speed for around that much..(1k -1.5 k)
I have no problems with the box, its working great but it is just noisy so i am thinking it is just a bering problem. i don't think i need a full rebuilt..
