BD install-quick help, why dont..

installing a BD roll bar and taking out my softtop. i noticed that the plate that sits on the rear parcel shelf dosnt sit flush.. as theres nuts for a harness on there and the rear shelf isnt totaly flat..

if i tighten the bolts right up it should pull it all together but the parcel shelf will be forever under stress pulling up... is this a worry? should i makes some spacers or some plate to pack out the gap a little?

remove said offending bolts.

they hold in the seat belt harness though.. the nuts are connected to the base of the BD bar and foul on the parcel shelf... the bolge over the fuel tank..

i had a chat with dan and all is good.. there will be some distorting..

but! it turns out my hardtop wont fit over the bar

going to go past work and make some spacers.. see if i can lean the bar forward

Last time I fit one in a car with no carpet on the shelf I got a hole saw and cut holes where the bolts are for the seat belts so they go through parcel shelf...then it pulls down flat.( this was quite a few cars and years ago so I hope it's right)

put some spacer plates between the parcel shelf and the bar.

fits nicely now and theres now some clearance under the harness mounting holes

I would have ground the nuts off the bar and bolted both through the parcel shelf with a decent plate underneath to take some load. All the BD bars I have seen have worked that way - none have had the nuts attached. Ideally you would brace the belt mounting point to something more substantial - maybe make up a stay bar that incorporates the underside plate and runs to the rear shock tower or boot floor. All depends how secure you want to feel in the car I guess.

Just edit theparcel shelf with a holesaw to let the nuts drop through

Irwin's right, it's counterintuitive but you get more clearance for the roof by rocking the top of the rollbar forward, i.e. raising the back.

With the bar lifted slightly off the deck you can just loop a harness around it instead of using clips and eyebolts. That removes the risk of cracking the glass rear window by slamming down on those eyebolts.
