paint cracking

Postby mekros » Tue Feb 26, 2008 6:15 am

Howdy all,

As I'm inspecting many many MX5s, I've come up with one that has crackin paint. I did have a closer look at it, and yes the paint is cracking, it's mainly on the upward facing surfaces, towards the edges. The paint itself is not flaking off or peeling in any way, just cracked. When you push on it, it feels solid, no movement.

Should I be worried about this? Medium and long term wise, what's the best thing to do for the car?

Cheers :)

Yes, be worried. Pass it up and look for another. Your desription is indicative of a bad repaint on that area.

Sounds like it's got bog under the paint, and the bog hadn't set properly when they painted over it.

Cheers for that.

There's a few too many locations for me to be suspicious about bog. I've seen other jobs been filled before and you can see the surface difference. With this specific car you can't.

Was the car in question white? Some of the earlier white cars had major issues with paint coming off in sheets.
