I am struggling with the concept of upgrading from the standard code?

Would i just need to reflash the ecu with the hi res ini?

To be honest I haven't looked into it, but I'm also interested in doing it. saboteur has done it to his PNP. Hopefully he can answer tonight, it'll save us reinventing the wheel. It's something about the firmware, using easytherm to mod it and something else.

He has a thread on miataturbo (eww), but he said to me to ignore some part of that - so I'd wait for his post here tonight, personally.

So, questions for the MMPNP_ _ _ _ versions:

1) they have several basic maps to get you started right? what I mean is, some pre-programmed ones that tweaks the fuel and ignition curves a little bit without having to tune it yourself?

2) Any problems with ancillaries like radiator fan controls, AC, not working?

3) Is the software easy to use? I might have to drop by someone's place and watch it in action.

4) I know there are heaps of \"add ons\", but the unit works fine just by itself right?

5) (try to be less biased) what do you reckon of the value of the sets sold by 949Racing on eBay?

1) It has one msq file that contains all the maps and other info. It will run on the provided map, but from memory it is pretty rich, and the AFR target map is not set up, presumably so you can't complain that they made your engine pop because it was too lean. IMO, if you go megasquirt, you 100% need the WBo2, and it will pay for itself in saved dyno time anyway. Set up the AFR targets and log / tune till the VE table is good, then set up spark and acceleration enrichments and tweek the VE table on the dyno for powaaaarrrrrr.

2) On a '94 it all works. All the constants like spark mode etc are already set up for you, if you follow the rules and remove the igniter plug before you flash the firmware you can hardly go wrong.

3) The open source software is the best bit of the whole thing. Download megatune and megalogviewer and play with it. Want lots of log files and msq files to play with? PM me your email and I will fill up your inbox! The online manual is pretty comprehensive too. Yes, if you play with the wrong settings or set up a table wrong you can stuff your engine, but if you are sensible about it it is safe.

4) WBO2 is a no brainer, also get the GM temp sensor so you can bin the MAF or VAF. That is all I have.

5) Haven't cheked ebay, but the web price is the same as diyautotune. Diy were great to deal with for me, I don't think you can go far wrong trusting either of them.

I'd really be hesitant not to tune it. It might be fine on an NA car, but I figure every engine's different. Plus the tune it comes with is a tune done in a totally different climate, so cold starts might have to be fiddled with. The wideband doesn't add that much extra to the cost and is the way to go.

If you build it yourself then you have to take it into account. if you buy the PNP, then it just works out-of-the-box.

Umm, depends on what you want to do. Tinkering with fuelling is easy. There is a lot of complicated sh*t in there but most of it you won't need to touch. if you're anything like me, after the initial setup you'll just be spending all your time logging and then using megalogviewer to tune your MSQ file.

Yeah. Buy the PNP. stick it in. Start your car.

Tim and I have started another forum up, in which we're trying to harbour the Australian MegaSquirted scene. I -really- don't like the attitudes of some of the people in another forum, not to mention that their info for the 94 is just flat out incomplete. It's not newbie friendly at all, so we're trying to make a friendlier place with some better attitudes, good info and catering for Aussie squirters.

Geoff: the sets sold by 949Racing are the PNP for all year NA's. But just the unit, nothing else.

I've seen DIYAutoTune's site, and also Glen's Garage.

I want to get one because I've always wanted very chunky cams, and you can't have the latter without the former.

I also bought my gear from DIY and they were brilliant. Fast at answering queries and they shipped the stuff out the same day I paid for it. Jerry also let me do a minor hardware board mod withour voiding my warranty!

I looked at the photos of the MSPNP's and the casing has "DIYAUTOTUNE.COM" engraved on them so they may the be ones who actually make them....?

He's not after a MSPNP (the MSPNP is made by DIY), he's just after a standard MegaSquirt board. The standard board is made by Bowling & Grippo.

I want to MS my tow car which is from back in the days of 4 barrel carbs.
I hope to get a bit more efficiency and make it a bit more economical by going efi.
I have since emailed DIY, very rapid response and a very helpful. Now with the exchange rate the way it is I guess I should place my order.

we need to catch up about that other stuff anyway, just remind to bring it along.
