Postby mxroadster » Sat Feb 23, 2008 2:10 pm

hi. one of my factory fog lights on my 02 titanium has an intermittent fault. it sometimes doesnt turn on unless i gently tap it with my fingers.

is the lamp on its way out or is it prolly a loose connector? anyone else had this issue.? i dont want to fork out the cas on a new lamp if the lamp is good and only a loose connection

cheers

Your \"lamp\" is only housing and lens- the globe is the light source and the wires connected to it provide the electrical connection. All probability is a bad connection. I have seen some posts which advise easiest way to get access.

Easiest way is to take the front wheel off,

Take the plastic cover off the wheel arch.

Push the plastic cover to one side (its thin and flexable) and thats it and you will see the connections on the back of the fog lights.

I was suprised how dirty it was inside there... The globes are quite cheap about 5 dollars.

thanks all,

will check it out prolly next weekend when i have a free hour. i actually though id have to replace the entire unit if it was burnt out and these cost an arm and leg. but if it the gloe can be replaced individually then i guess its not much of a big deal.

What is expensive is the lamp unit themselves. The lens is actually made of glass, and quite a few have been broken by flying stones.

Next time you are at the auto shop get some of that self-adhesive headlight protector material (a thick, clear vinyl) and stick a piece on each lamp. Clean the glass with some metho or prepsol first.

You can cut it with a pair of scissors, and I used a roll of masking tape as a cutting template.

if the whole unit, cost u around $400+, but if it works on and off, obviously no problem to the unit.

I have taken out the light b4, just turn all the wheel to one side, take out 3 or 4 plastic clip to open the guard and u should able to access the fog light.

mxroadster, do you know if the foggies on your 5 have been fixed as a result of the recall (sometime in 2003)?

It had to do with some tension spring to the fog lights. It prevents them vibrating too much and resting on the plastic bar (which can cause some softening of the surrounding bumber aperature or worst - fire).

They placed a sticker somewhere near the drivers side (inside) door frame) if they have.

It's sold as a universal headlight protector kit - sold in Auto One and Supercheap type of places.
