NA6 temp gauge

Postby tjcool » Sat Feb 23, 2008 4:10 pm

gang just wondering what does your 1.6 mx5 noramlly run at temperature wise

I have had my MX for about 5 years and its always run about half way hot on the temp gauge.

recently i helped a mate install twin thermos on his car cause he was concerend it was running hot and it got me thinking... is half way too hot ??

i have twin thermo fans on mine but they do not run constantly like an enginge fan would, and im sure it should be running at all times??

i thought that with twin electric fans like these they are usually two speed
ie: they run normally all the time , then if the car gets hot sitting in traffic or if you turn on the air con one of them goes faster on a 2nd speed to cool better ? is this right ?
the car on a cold winter night will sit at about a 1/4 hot but normally sits just under half during normal driving temps.
please let me know cause if im slowly cooking my engine or warping the head or whatever id like to know

cheers
tim

just under half is exactly where it is meant to sit. you have nothing to worry about.

the fans only kick in when they need to, they should not be running all the time , and your second fan will only work when the aircon is turned on.

What Fatty said. Also, there is a know dead spot in the NA6 guage. It should get to its normal spot of just left to centre when the coolant is around 67c and will stay there unless the coolant climbs above around 100c. The thermostat does not open to 91c (or is it 93c), so the coolant will sit around that temp most of the time. There are ways of having the 2nd fan be on whenever the 1st fan is on, but I would not concern yourself at this point.
